Characteristics of Quinta de Tarsus

Quinta de Tarsus is a red wine from D.O. Ribera del Duero produced by Bodegas Tarsus, a winery belonging to the group Pernod Ricard Bodegas.
Located in the heart of Ribera, in the municipality of Anguix (Burgos), this winery, directed by oenologist Teresa Rodríguez, offers wines with deep, concentrated aromas, and with a great ageing capacity.

Quinta de Tarsus is made 100% with the queen variety of Ribera, Tinta del País. The grapes come from vines planted in double espalier, an innovation of the winery that aims to achieve the full evolution of the vineyard, both at a growth and physiological level.
For its production, the must goes through fermentation for 20 to 30 days, at a temperature of between 24-26ºC, in order to achieve a greater fruit concentration.
After the vinification process, Quinta de Tarsus ages for 12 months in French and American oak barrels. The process ends with one more year of ageing, this time in the bottle.

Tasting notes Quinta de Tarsus

The 2015 vintage started with a winter that had good groundwater reserves. The spring was warm and dry until well into the month of June, when there were intense rainfall at the beginning of the blooming. A summer with some well spread out storms gave way to a very dry autumn. The harvest was slightly ahead of the usual dates, but the analytical and organoleptic features, and the balance of the berries, were ideal. Thus enabled the harvest to take place at the optimal ripening time. The wines from this vintage, which was classified as excellent, have a good colour intensity, significant fruity notes on the nose and a high tannic potential in the mouth, with sweet tannins that indicate the good phenolic ripening of the berries. A vintage reminiscent of the exceptional 2005 vintage.
After the withering in a mild winter, the warm start of spring brought sprouting forward by almost 10 days. The summer, which was quite cool and dry, enabled the good evolution of the growth cycle and a balanced ripening. This was a vintage without setbacks. Worth mentioning is the high production of this vintage due to good climatic behaviour during the harvest. The wines from this vintage have great colour intensity, and a high fruity expression on the nose and in the mouth. Their balance and tannic potential stand out; these features show us the great potential to produce great wines for ageing, and for lighter and fruitier productions.
This was a complicated year. Although the sprouting of the vines was slightly early, the low temperatures recorded during the spring delayed the growth cycle, which no longer recovered in the summer, despite having a warm month of July. The harvest was carried out at a fast pace, and with the extra effort of the viticulturers, who discarded the fruit that did not meet the optimal conditions. This way, they made sure that they avoided the probable effect of the botrytis attacks due to the rains they had around this time. The wines from this vintage, rated as a good one, offer good colour intensity, great fruit expression and a lot of freshness.
Regarding climate, the 2012 vintage started with the sprouting of the vines in the beginning of spring with the cooler temperatures. In May, generous rainfall and high temperatures gave way to a generalised drought throughout the summer. Luckily, the rains started at the onset of the ripening. The precipitations at the beginning of October, and the nice temperatures during the harvest, resulted in the a uniform phenolic ripening. The wines from this vintage have a good alcoholic strength, balanced by moderate levels of acidity, with a good colour and phenolic intensity, and a suitable level of tannins, all important features for a perfect ageing.
Sight Intense red with a violet rim. Nose A red fruit aroma combined with toasted and spiced hints from the barrel. Floral notes. Taste An elegant and fruity wine on the palate with plenty of tannins.
2010 started with heavy frosts in winter and spring, causing a delay in the commencement of the growth cycle. Above all, this situation marked the vintage with a low yield harvest. This delay of the growth cycle was offset by a slightly mild but good ripening. This fact resulted in wines with greater structure, floral wines with very ripe fruit in compote, a little less acid than the 2009 vintage, but with an excellent quality and with a long life ahead. The low production and the excellent ripening helped classify this vintage as excellent.
The 2009 vintage started with a winter of low temperatures, which gave way to a cool spring. A dry summer, with warm days and mild nights, and great temperature changes between day and night, led to very balanced, complex and concentrated grapes. As for climate, it was the perfect vintage. This influenced the health of the grapes, which was excellent. Therefore, the wines from this vintage have a good acidity, which is responsible for long-lived wines with a good structure. And generally, responsible for very fruity wines with fresh red fruit that stands out. One of the great vintages of this region.
Sight Intense cherry colour with violet edges. Very vivid and bright. Nose The marked notes of red fruit and flowers (violets) stand out over a well-integrated toasted and vanilla aromas provided by the wood. The wine is completed with some light balsamic and mineral touch. Taste Good and powerful but not umpleasant attack. Tasty and silky mid palate with a good presence of fruit. Well structured wine, still with slightly sharp tannins. Good finish. An elegant and tasty wine.
Sight Deep cherry colour with garnet trims. Light tear. Nose Expressive aromas of ripe red fruit which appear along with notes of roasted and spices, rather sweet. Taste Elegant red wine from the Ribera del Duero. Soft and balanced. Tasty mid palate where the notes of fruit and toasted appear again. Integrated tannins. Good finish. An easy drinking wine.
Sight Bright red with violet edge. Nose Red fruit aromas combined with toast and spices from the barrel. With floral notes. Taste Elegant wine, fruity and tannic.
