Characteristics of Quinta de Couselo Selección
Quinta de Couselo Selección is a white wine from the D.O. Rías Baixes produced by the Quinto de Couselo winery. This wine is made using only Albariño grapes.
The winery is home to eight hectares of vineyards, with other estates overseen by the winery´s technical team. The soils on these plots are mainly granitic, although slate soils are also present.
Following the exhaustive control of the vineyard during cultivation, the harvest is carried out manually using small boxes with 15kg capacities in order to prevent the grapes from breaking. Once the grapes have been transported to the winery, the grapes are kept at a controlled temperature of 5ºC.
The clusters are choosen one by one on a vibrating selection table. Then, the grapes are then destemmed and macerate before being pressed in a pneumatic press. The must obtained from this process is then seperated and undergoes static racking.
Quinta de Couselo Selección ferments at controlled temperature before finally being aged. This wine spends 26 months on its lees and is stabilised in stainless steel tanks.
The Albariño grape is a spanish white variety with a strong floral and terpene character, ideal for producing not only young fresh and aromatic whites, but also (barrel) aged wines. Initially the DO. Rías Baixes was only seen as a region of great hope for Spanish whites, but it has managed to turn this hope into reality.
