Characteristics of Portú
Portú is a red wine from the Jumilla D.O region, produced by the Luzón winery. This wine is a blend of 2 grape varieties, Monastrell (80%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (20%).
The grapes used to make Portú come from vines which are around 50 years old and are situated at 650metres above sea level.
The harvest is carried out manually, with the grapes being transported to the winery in small boxes of 10-15kg in capacity in order to avoid damage before arrival. At the winery, grapes are selected at a selection table before the barreling and vinification process.
The must is then fermented at a controlled temperatura of 28ºC-30ºC for around 10 days. In the next fase of maceration, the skin remains on the the grapes for the following 10 and 15 days.
Finally, before botteling, Portú is aged for 18months in barrels of american and french oak.
Luzón, located in the north of Murcia, is one of the most prominent winerys of the Jumilla D.O region. It´s 500 hectares of vineyards are surrounded by mountains and olive tres, which makes for spectacular views.
