Characteristics of Portia Crianza
Portia Crianza is a red wine from the Ribera del Duero region produced by the Portia winery. This wine is produced using only Tempranillo grapes.
The grapes used to make Portia Crianza come from four different estates managed by either the staff from the winery or by trusted winemakers. The estates used are Roa, Gumiel de Mercado, Sotillo de la Ribera and Villanueva de Gumiel. These plots are situated at around 820 metres above sea level with a yield of around 5,000 kilos per hectare.
After the harvest has been carried out and the grapes have been transported to the winery, they ferment in controlled conditions in tanks at a constant temperature of 26°C. Finally, before being bottled, the wine is aged for about a year in American oak barrels.
The Portia winery is known for its spectacular facilities: built from concrete, wood, steel and glass, it occupies 12,500 metres. The facilites were designed at the hands of the architect Norman Foster, an award-winning architect who has won many awards including the 2009 Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts.
