Characteristics of Planeta Etna Bianco
Planet Etna Bianco is a monovarietal white wine made from Carricante and produced by the Planeta winery, under the auspices of the Etna DOC, in Sicily.
Carricante is a native grape from Sicily that is grown exclusively in and around Mount Etna, where it finds an environment that is ideal for producing excellent white wines with structure and longevity.
Planeta Etna Bianco comes from the Feudo di Mezzo vineyards of the Planeta winery, which is located on the slopes of Mount Etna facing north, 700 metres above sea level, where the soils are extraordinarily rich in minerals such as the derivatives of the area’s eroded lava.
To produce Planeta Etna Bianco, the grapes are picked into boxes and refrigerated at 8ºC. They are then de-stemmed and gently pressed. 15% of the must ferments in oak barrels and the rest in stainless steel tanks at 15ºC for 20 days.
The wine is aged in stainless steel tanks and in 225 litre Allier oak barrels, and remains in contact with its fine lees until February, with regular batonnage or stirring.
Planeta Etna Bianco is an excellent wine that provides us with the opportunity to immerse ourselves in Etna's volcanic winegrowing and to discover little-known varieties that are a true reflection of the terroir they come from.
