Characteristics of Pierre Morey Monthelie
Pierre Morey Monthelie is an organic, barrel-aged red wine made by Pierre Morey with the Pinot Noir variety in the AOC Monthelie/Cote d'Or denomination in Burgundy (France).
After working as a winemaker at Domaine Leflaive for almost 20 years, in 2008 Pierre Morey Monthelie decided to dedicate himself exclusively to his own Morey-Blanc project. This is a small, 10-hectare family winery in the heart of the denomination that produces impressive, elegant and long-living wines.
Pierre Morey Monthelie comes from vines lying on gentle slopes. These are old vines planted in 1965 on red, calcareous and stone-covered soils. They are cultivated using ecological agriculture and no chemical products, instead opting for biodynamic treatments. The harvest is carried out manually at the optimum point of ripeness.
In the winery, the Pierre Morey Monthelie grapes are destemmed and undergo carbonic maceration until alcoholic fermentation begins spontaneously. This takes place with native yeasts and frequent cap plunges. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for 15 to 20 months and is finally bottled by gravity.
Considered one of the most prestigious winemakers in Burgundy, Pierre Morey together with his daughter has produced this Pierre Morey Monthelie wine, which is delightful and smooth on the palate from start to finish.
