Characteristics of Piérola Reserva
Piérola Reserva is a red wine from La Rioja developed by the Fernández de Piérola cellar. This wine is a varietal Tempranillo, a variety of excellence in the region.
The grapes come from old vines between 45 and 60 years old. The plots are of low yield but high concentration and quality.
After a harvest and selection of the grapes, grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures which does not exceed 30 degrees, an incorporated cooling system is used. After this process, Piérola Reserva is aged for 24 months in American oak barrels -70% of the total, with the other 30% being French.
Piérola Reserva is finally aged in bottle before going to market.
Fernández de Piérola is a small family winery. In order to distinguish itself from other Rioja wineries, Fernández de Piérola uses only family vineyards nestled in the village of Moreda, in La Rioja Alavesa.
