Characteristics of Pesquera Crianza

Pesquera Crianza is a classic red wine from the D.O Ribera del Duero region and is produced by Tinto Pesquera, a winery that belongs the Pesquera group.

The area is home to a mediterranean climate with continental influences, characterised by dry summers and long harsh winters. The temperatures vary noticeably from season to season.

This wine is made using only Tempranillo (100%) grapes than are grown on vineyards which span over 200 hectares on soils composed of sands, gravels and contain limestone and clay.

As for production, after passing a selection table, the grapes are destemmed. They then undego a traditional vinification process. Maceration takes place with the skinds still on, followed by fermentation at a controlled temperature with lasts for 2 to 3 weeks.

Finally, Pesquera Crianza ages for 18 months in French and American oak barrels, followed by 6 months in the bottle.

Tasting notes Pesquera Crianza

After a dry winter, spring came loaded with rain. Thankfully, this water was stored, since it was much needed during the extremely dry summer. The low temperatures during spring delayed the sprouting of the vines, which led the growth cycle to start with delay. However, this delay was offset thanks to the high temperatures recorded in July and August, to the point of delaying ripening in those younger vineyards. The 2016 vintage beat the production record of the 2014 vintage. And not only in production, but also in quality due to the excellent weather conditions and the excellent health of the vineyards. The wines from this vintage offer a lot of volume, with a good capacity to face the passing of time, with roundness and spectacular tannins. A harvest reminiscent of those of the late 80s and early 90s.
Pesquera Crianza 2015 comes from an excellent vintage. The tinta del país grape variety obtained all the compounds to be able to express themselves with the maximum potential. A lot of black fruit with a lot of intensity and with a good acidity that allows it to be a concentrated wine with a good fluidity. A good representation of the classic style of Ribera de Duero.
After the withering in a mild winter, the warm start of spring brought sprouting forward by almost 10 days. The summer, which was quite cool and dry, enabled the good evolution of the growth cycle and a balanced ripening. This was a vintage without setbacks. Worth mentioning is the high production of this vintage due to good climatic behaviour during the harvest. The wines from this vintage have great colour intensity, and a high fruity expression on the nose and in the mouth. Their balance and tannic potential stand out; these features show us the great potential to produce great wines for ageing, and for lighter and fruitier productions.
This was a complicated year. Although the sprouting of the vines was slightly early, the low temperatures recorded during the spring delayed the growth cycle, which no longer recovered in the summer, despite having a warm month of July. The harvest was carried out at a fast pace, and with the extra effort of the viticulturers, who discarded the fruit that did not meet the optimal conditions. This way, they made sure that they avoided the probable effect of the botrytis attacks due to the rains they had around this time. The wines from this vintage, rated as a good one, offer good colour intensity, great fruit expression and a lot of freshness.
Regarding climate, the 2012 vintage started with the sprouting of the vines in the beginning of spring with the cooler temperatures. In May, generous rainfall and high temperatures gave way to a generalised drought throughout the summer. Luckily, the rains started at the onset of the ripening. The precipitations at the beginning of October, and the nice temperatures during the harvest, resulted in the a uniform phenolic ripening. The wines from this vintage have a good alcoholic strength, balanced by moderate levels of acidity, with a good colour and phenolic intensity, and a suitable level of tannins, all important features for a perfect ageing.

Sight Intense cherry red colour with violet edges. Clean and bright wine, with a medium-high layer and abundant tears that stain the glass. Nose Very good aromatic intensity with marked notes of fruit. Its large load of fleshy, very expressive and intense ripe red fruit is released from the very beginning on a background of expressive notes of spices, fresch balsamic touches and delicate toasted aromas. Taste Elegant, very tasty and very fresh wine, with a long silky mid palate full of expressive fruit mixed with cocoa, toffee and creamy elegant toasted aromas. It shows an excellent acidity and excellent tannins. Long, persistent and very nice finish.
Sight Dark cherry colour with burgundy trims. Bright and well covered wine with thin tears. Nose Intense aromas of ripe red fruit which take center stage along with very expressive spicy notes and notes provided by the oak which do not cover the notes of fruit. Subtle mineral and cocoa touches.
Taste Very rich and intense wine, which fills the mouth of ripe fruit and fine wood. Silky, glyceric, elegant and round wine, with a good acidity. Medium persitance but very tasty finish.
Sight Intense cherry red with cardinals, lots of color charge, a brand of the winery Pesquera. Tears stained layer, very high, which gives this wine a wonderful color. Nose The wine's intense bouquet reveals the best dark fruit marked by impeccable wood aromas. Hints of fallen leaves and certain spices such as vanilla.
Taste In the mouth, sublime, remind us again that we have found the fruit on the nose, long, elegant, full-bodied, full of life and in turn ready to drink. One of the red wines from Ribera del Duero best rated.

Vega Sicilia continued to maintain and grow the myth in the entire world for decades, other wineries, with masterly red wines, fino wines and long-aged wines, awakened the passion of the most expert and renowned international tasters. One of the greatest examples is Alejandro Fernández. The appearance of his Tinto Pesquera in 1975 was a revolution in the world of wine in Ribera. Some of the wines resemble them who made them, and in this case, they are quite right. Tinto Pesquera and Alejandro Fernández have in common a resounding personality, a dazzling style, open, convincing from the first glass. Capable of giving everything it has now and also gaining complexity and nuances over the year
s, without losing its original character. Without any doubt, Pesquera wines have a style that is both special and personal. Some critics, like renowned Robert Parker, have placed them among the best wines in the world.
