Characteristics of Perelada Finca La Garriga Blanco
Perelada Finca la Garriga Blanco is a white wine from the D.O Empordà produced by Castillo de Perelada. This wine is a blend of Chardonnay (60%) and Cariñena Blanca (40%).
The grape for Perelada Finca la Garriga Blanco is born and grown in Finca La Garriga. There are 40 hectares of land in which these 50 year old vines grow in poor soils. Predominantly: clay, sand and gravel.
The harvest, after which the first selection is performed in the vines, are picked by hand. The grapes are transported to the winery, these are then processed following traditional methods.
Perelada Finca la Garriga Blanco is fermented at 14ºC in new acacia wood barrels. Finally, the wine is aged in these same barrels for eight months with regular battonages.
Miguel Mateu pla founded in 1923, the winery Castillo de Perelada, is attempting to recover the lost years of traditional winemaking that used to exist on these lands.

The landscape of the region of Empordà, located in the northeast of Catalonia, is full of contrasts, due to the natural limits of the Pyrenees in the north and the Mediterranean Sea and magnificent Costa Brava in the east. Thanks to these, the Empordà is a unique place, a special territory between the sea and the mountains, marked by the presence of the north wind known as Tramontana.
Historically, the great economic engine of D.O. Empordà has been and still is Perelada. Many other wineries have looked up to them. Although it produces a wide range of wines, from the more linear and competitive ones to the those that are more exclusive, such as Finca Garbet, the Finca Malaveïna or the Ex Ex collection, among others, it also offers wines made with native varieties, such as the Red and White Grenache, Samsó, etc. However, more than the numerical weight of the wine variety, we must point out the effort made by this winery to halt the progressive decline suffered by the area's image, as a land of bulk wines, where the few bottled wines were oxidised, and others were not too marketable. It is safe to say that Perelada lead the way and marked the new path of the Empordà wines.
