Characteristics of Peites

Peites is a red wine from Priorat produced by Celler Mas Balte. It is a blend of Grenache (70%) and Syrah (30%) varieties.

The harvest of Peites grapes takes place during the entire month of September. Once harvested, the grapes are transported to the winery, where the Grenache undergoes 24 hours of cold maceration. Both Grenache and Syrah then go through a process of fermentation in stainless steel vats of 500 and 1000 litres.

Then malolactic fermentation occurs in French oak barrels. Peites undergoes 6 months aging in the same barrels as where fermentation occurs. The Grenache rests in 1 year old medium-toasted barrels.

The name of the wine, Peites, pays tribute to the Galician village of the same name, located in the province of Lugo, from which the Balte Mas family originates.

Tasting notes Peites

Sight Brilliant cherry red. Nose Diverse and complex fruity tones. Taste Fruity with notes of wood, long and pleasant. Good aftertaste.

Winery Mas Basté

Priorat is craftsmanship and tradition, old and robust vines that are grown and born deep inside the province of Tarragona. They are grown on slopes that are sleety with low fertility and difficult to grow in. In Priorat they produce great red wines of an excellent quality, a maroon colour, robust, dense and rich flavour, intense aromas and sometimes there are reflections present of minerals from the soils.
