Pampaneo Airén is a white wine produced by Esencia Rural in Quero, Toledo.
Julián Ruiz Villanueva, raised by his father, a livestock breeder, and his mother, a farmer, left his hard country life when he was very young to go and study in Madrid. Years later, and Graduated in Social Studies, he returned to start his career in organic agriculture in an area where they were not familiar with these beliefs.
After planting organic melons and peppers, in 1998 he decided to try with organic wines. With 50 hectares of vines, most of them very old and even pre-phylloxera, he advocated for local varieties, Airén and Tinto Velasco, complemented with Tempranillo and Syrah. The philosophy of Esencia Rural is to make wines with minimum intervention, leaving the terroir and the variety to express themselves naturally, without filters or restraints.
Pampaneo Airén is a wine made from 100% Airén from their own vineyards. These are cultivated biodynamically, with maximum respect for the environment and no addition of chemical products. After manually harvesting the grapes and after their selection in the vineyard, they ferment spontaneously with local yeasts. After this, they are macerated for around 4 months in stainless steel deposits. The wine stands for 2 months in amphorae and it is bottled using gravity, without clarifying or filtering. It is produced without adding sulphites.
