Palliser Estate Pinot Noir is a barrel-aged red wine made from the Pinot Noir variety by the Palliser Estate winery in Martinborough (Wellington).
Palliser Estate is a leading New Zealand winery, with their wines present in some of the best establishments around the world. Founded in 1989, it has 92 hectares of vineyards, most of them planted with Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc. Working to environmentally friendly principles, this was the first wine company in the world to gain ISO 14001 certification.
Palliser Estate Pinot Noir comes from the winery’s oldest vines. These are strains with an average age of 18 years old and planted in stony silt soils with different depths of old gravel and that allow good drainage. Cultivated using sustainable methods, the best expression comes from this small terrace located in the southern tip of the North Island.
In the winery, a third of the Palliser Estate Pinot Noir grapes are left whole, in bunches. They ferment in open tanks at a controlled temperature with native yeasts. The wine is then aged for 10 months in French oak barrels, one third of which are new and the rest used.
Palliser Estate Pinot Noir is an excellent red wine where the fruity character reveals the most fresh and succulent expression of the Pinot Noir variety from New Zealand.
