Characteristics of Pagos de Galir Mencía
Pagos de Galir Mencía is a red wine made by Virgen del Galir with the Mencía variety in the D.O. Valdeorras, in Galicia (Spain).
Virgen del Galir is a young winery lying on the edge of the Camino de Santiago, in the heart of Valdeorras. This unique project cultivates 20 recovered micro-plots with slate and granitic soils that lie more than 600 metres above sea level. This results in fresh and very mineral wines.
Pagos de Galir Mencía is made with grapes from small plots lying on high-altitude slopes. They are cultivated using traditional agriculture and the harvest is carried out manually in 15 kg boxes.
In the winery, Pagos de Galir Mencía ferments in stainless steel tanks where a cold pre-fermentation maceration is also carried out. The wine then spends 6 months in American and French oak barrels before the final coupage is made. It is bottled and spends another 6 months in the winery before being sold.
Pagos de Galir Mencía is the winery’s flagship wine, made from exceptional plots and with a light barrel aging. A fruity red with balsamic and mineral touches.
