Characteristics of Pago de los Capellanes Joven Roble

Pago de los Capellanes Roble is a red wine from the appellation of origin Ribera del Duero produced by Pago de los Capellanes. This wine is a varietal Tempranillo.

After the harvest, the grapes for Pago de los Capellanes Roble are transported to the winery, where firstly, a brief cold pre-fermentation process. Secondly, a spontaneous alcoholic fermentation.

Pago de los Capellanes Roble remains in a vat for 22 days. During this time, various battonages and pump overs are conducted to control the density, temperature and evolution of the yeast.

After this process, the containers are bled and thus, begins the malolactic fermentation at 20ºC that extends for a further 24 days.

Pago de los Capellanes Roble rests for 5 months in new French oak barrels being released on the market.

Tasting notes Pago de los Capellanes Joven Roble

The 2017 vintage rated as "Very Good" has been characterized by being a warm and dry year. Low water reserves at the start became more severe during the months of July and August, when conditions were extremely dry except for some heavy rains towards the beginning of the harvest. Yet without a doubt the defining moment of the year was the frost that affected much of Ribera del Duero on April 28th, immediately following budding, resulting in weak plant mass. This affected plant growth and flowering for the entire year resulting in major production losses. This mishap was followed by some very hot months in June and July. Due to these events the wines of this year are characterized by being wines with more volume and medium acidity. Perfect to drink while young and with a good capacity for aging.
After a dry winter, spring came loaded with rain. Thankfully, this water was stored, since it was much needed during the extremely dry summer. The low temperatures during spring delayed the sprouting of the vines, which led the growth cycle to start with delay. However, this delay was offset thanks to the high temperatures recorded in July and August, to the point of delaying ripening in those younger vineyards. The 2016 vintage beat the production record of the 2014 vintage. And not only in production, but also in quality due to the excellent weather conditions and the excellent health of the vineyards. The wines from this vintage offer a lot of volume, with a good capacity to face the passing of time, with roundness and spectacular tannins. A harvest reminiscent of those of the late 80s and early 90s.
The 2015 vintage started with a winter that had good groundwater reserves. The spring was warm and dry until well into the month of June, when there were intense rainfall at the beginning of the blooming. A summer with some well spread out storms gave way to a very dry autumn. The harvest was slightly ahead of the usual dates, but the analytical and organoleptic features, and the balance of the berries, were ideal. Thus enabled the harvest to take place at the optimal ripening time. The wines from this vintage, which was classified as excellent, have a good colour intensity, significant fruity notes on the nose and a high tannic potential in the mouth, with sweet tannins that indicate the good phenolic ripening of the berries. A vintage reminiscent of the exceptional 2005 vintage.
Sight Clean and bright cherry red. A fine tear. Nose Highlights of strong black fruit. Vanilla, coffee and spicy undertones. Taste Medium bodied, fresh and fruity. Light tannins, elegant and excellent acidity.
Sight Dark cherry red. Clean and bright. Fine and tinted tears show on the glass. Nose Intense aromas of black red fruit stand out, along with spices, vanilla, coffee and nice toasted notes. Taste Medium-bodied, fresh and fruit. Light, ripe, elegant tannins and a good acidity.
Regarding climate, the 2012 vintage started with the sprouting of the vines in the beginning of spring with the cooler temperatures. In May, generous rainfall and high temperatures gave way to a generalised drought throughout the summer. Luckily, the rains started at the onset of the ripening. The precipitations at the beginning of October, and the nice temperatures during the harvest, resulted in the a uniform phenolic ripening. The wines from this vintage have a good alcoholic strength, balanced by moderate levels of acidity, with a good colour and phenolic intensity, and a suitable level of tannins, all important features for a perfect ageing.
After a predictable winter, the weather changed in spring. Temperatures were higher than normal, which caused an early start of the grapes’ ripening cycle. The normal course of the climate at the end of spring and at the beginning of the summer, allowed the vines to recover their usual pace, and the veraison took place on the expected dates. The beginning of the harvest was slightly early due to the strong heat the grapes suffered during their ripening. However, the nice weather throughout the harvest, without rain or frost, provided grapes with an impeccable health. Wines from the 2011 vintage have a slightly higher alcohol strength than usual, with a perfect balance thanks to their natural acidity, concentration of colour and phenolic richness. For all these reasons, this vintage has been classified as excellent, offering high-quality young wines, and wines with the ideal features for their ageing.
Sight Nice cherry red colour with violet and blue reflections (typical of its youth). Clean and bright wine with abundant tears. Nose Intense and elegant aromas, in which the red and black fruits are nuanced by numerous sweet and hot spicy notes, touches of mocha and cocoa and good toasted hints on an important milky background. Taste Wide wine, which fills the mouth with very sweet milky and fruity sensations at the attack. Soft, silky and tasty mid palate. Well structured and balanced wine with good and elegant nice tannins (which still need some time to get polished). Good finish with good persistence. An elegant, very nice, tasty and easy-drinking wine from the Ribera del Duero.
Sight In the eye gives us a clean and bright cherry color. Nose In the nose, an intense floral aroma and red fruit in the forest, milk and vanilla with touches of his own brief aging in wood. Taste The passage of the mouth is wide, elegant, persistent and velvety, without losing the resiliency of the great wines of Ribera.
Sight It gives us a clean and bright cherry color. Nose In the nose, intense red fruit and floral aroma of the forest, joins lactic and vanilla with hints of his brief passage through wood (150 days). Taste The passage of the mouth is wide, elegant, persistent and velvety, without losing the resiliency of the great wines of Ribera.
