Characteristics of Nocturna

Nocturna is a red wine produced in the D.O.C La Rioja by Oxer Belastegi in Laguardia, Alava.

Oxer Bastegieta is a winemaker who began to produce Txakoli at the family winery in Kortezubi, a small Basque town close to the Urdailbai natural park. He first moved to Rioja to study a masters in viticulture and oenology, where he fell in love with the landscape of the Rioja Alavesa. He established his residence in Laguardia in 2009, where he began to inspect the vineyards in the region to begin to produce wines in the zone.

His first project was Nocturna, a wine that is produced from small plots of Tempranillo vineyards that are over 80 years old and situated close to the town of Laguardia. Both alcoholic and malolactic fermentation take place in stainless steel tanks using their own yeasts. The wine is then decanted into new French oak barrels where it is aged for 14 months.
