Characteristics of Muriel Crianza Fincas de la Villa
Muriel Crianza is a white wine from the D.O La Rioja produced by Bodegas Muriel. This is a monovarietal of Tempranillo, the grape of excellence from La Rioja.
Muriel Crianza originates from vines with an average age of 20 years old. The vines are planted at 400-700 meters above sea level and are cultivated using the goblet-pruning system, a traditional method.
The climate is Mediterranean but moderate thanks to the presence of Sierra de Cantabria and the presence of the Cantábrico Sea.
After the harvest, the grape for Muriel Crianza is fermented and macerated for 15 days in stainless steel containers. During this process there are daily pump overs to obtain a better extraction of colour.
Muriel Crianza ferments malolactically in containers and is racked twice before being aged for two months in 225 litre American barrels.
Before being bottles, Muriel Crianza is treated with egg white.
The wine group Bodegas Muriel, established in 1926, the date when José Murúa Villaverde started his first winery. Several generations later, today his son Julián Murúa and his son Javier run the business.

La Rioja is one of the most important areas of wine production in the world. It has a long history, and exceptional soils and climates. From the Tempranillo and Grenache varieties they make great red wines that are masterfully aged which demonstrates the experience passed from generation to generation.
Bodegas Muriel was founded in 1926 by José Murúa Villaverde in Elciego, one of the most famous and appreciated hubs of the Rioja Alavesa.
The balance between the past and the future defines the character of Bodegas Muriel, a winery that opts to connect history with a focus on the present.
In 1986, Julián Murúa decided to continue the work started by his father. He revived the family winery under the Muriel name, which combines his surname (Murúa) with the winery's place of origin, Elciego. Thus, began the second chapter of this exciting project. The winery currently possesses the experience and vision of its managers, Julián Murúa and his son, Javier Murúa.
