Características de Muga Prado Enea Gran Reserva

Muga Prado Enea Gran Reserva is a red wine from La Rioja produced by Bodegas Muga. This wine is a blend in which Tempranillo (80%) dominates, accompanied by Garnacha, Mazuelo and Graciano (which together represent 20%).

The grapes come from vineyards located in the highest part of the winery. They grow on calcareous clay and alluvial soils.

The grapes used to produce Muga Prado Enea Gran Reserva are always the last to enter the winery. Thus they have reached optimum ripeness and have passed a first selection in the vineyard. Having undergone the second process of selection in the winery, the grapes are fermented in oak tanks of 10,000 kilos without any temperature control or yeast.

The maceration, depending on the circumstances, can be prolonged for 20 days. Muga Prado Enea Gran Reserva is then aged for one year in oak tanks of 16,000 litres, after a miniumum 36 months aging in oak barrels, it spends another 36 months in bottle.

Before marketing, Muga Prado Enea Gran Reserva passes through a process of clarification with fresh egg white.

Bodegas Muga is located in the neighborhood of La Estación, in Haro, a town with a historic winemaking tradition.

Bodegas Muga has its own cooperage, something very rare nowadays. Its oak wood is used in the winemaking process.

Tasting notes Muga Prado Enea Gran Reserva

Sight Intense ruby with red hues. Nose With hints of fruit and aging. Ripe red fruits and notes of good wood blend with spicy nuances and leaves memories of snuff. It is a classic wine that has a character and a very current vitality. Taste Balanced and full bodied. Consistent and full, there is lively acidity and integrated wooden touches. It is tasty, expressive and suggestive, with notes of ripe grapes. Long and persevering, it has a nice wide end.
Sight Pretty polished ruby red colour, very pure and bright. Fine and elegant tears stain the glass. Nose High intensity. Notes of blueberries, sloe, wild berries and blackberries prevail, accompanied by scrub herbs. The spices from the oak are barely noticeable since they are very well-integrated but clove, coconut and vanilla can be detected by the nose. Taste Creamy, intense and long-lasting attack. Definitely the most surprising stage of tasting. The acidity is present, but it is gentle, with very sweet and polished tannins and minerals present. A wine with endless character.
Sight Nice maroon colour with light brick-red reflections. Clean and bright wine with elegant dense tears. Nose Powerful, elegant and seductive aromas. One of the best aromatic sets. Leather, fine cigars, multiple spices, very ripe fruit, thick chocolate, liquorice and subtle mineral touches are perceived... They are all very balanced and harmonious, without standing one over the others. It is worth mentioning that the subtle floral aromas found in other vintages are not felt in this one. Taste Great and very bulky attack. Embracing wine, with a meaty and very tasty mid palate and a silky texture. The aromas felt in the nose are noticed again, very seductive. It has an excellent acidity and a perfect balance. It shows polished and well integrated tannins. Its finish is very, very long and persistent. An excellent, very friendly and extremely elegant wine that will seduce us. A delight for all the senses!
Sight Garnet colour with good robe and slight brick-red hues around the edge Nose On the nose, aromas of spices and chocolate, wrapped up in fruit which is almost like a liqueur. Taste A powerful attack, balanced and yet syrupy smooth. Very long and honest aftertaste.

The Muga family is part of the history of wine of the Haro and Rioja regions. They were first wine traders and then they set up their own winery and started producing their own wines. Their name is now known in more than 50 different countries throughout the world through their wines.
Their experience and artisanal production bring an outstanding quality to their wines.

HISTORY OF THE WINERY

It all started in 1932 when the couple Isaac Muga and Aurora Cano decided to open a little wine distribution family business in the centre of Haro, in the heart of the Rioja Alta.

In 1968 the little family owned wine shop became a winery, settling in a beautiful 19th century mansion in the Estación de Haro area, now the region with the highest concentration of wineries in the world, where they started to produce their first wines.

Towards the end of the 80s, Bodegas Muga decided to start producing more current wines, with the idea of trying to export their wines on the international market.
Thus, at the start of the 90s, the two greatest successes of the winery were born: the Torre Muga and the Prado Enea.

Today Bodegas Muga exports much of its produce, especially to the United States, where it has always been very well received by both consumers and critics.

WORK PHILOSOPHY

Bodegas Muga have 200 hectares of vineyards at the foothills of the Obarense mountains, where they harvest Tempranillo, Grenache, Mazuelo and Graciano red grape varieties and Viura and Malvasia white grape varieties. They also control another 150 hectares of farms in the region.

The orientation and location of the vineyards are situated at a crossing-point between Mediterranean, Atlantic and Continental climates, resulting in a perfect climate and environment for grape growing.
The soils are mostly marl, although ferrous clay soils and alluvial soils are also found. These soils are equipped with a special quality specific to the region.
This mix of climates and soil characteristics make the ripening of the grape long and delicate.

The grapes are arranged for different productions, passing through sorting tables by hand to insure quality. The method of work at the winery has changed very little from generation to generation. The grapes ferment in oak vats, make the grapes into wine individually depending on their quality and vineyard of origin.

Aging is done in French and American oak barrels, and to a lesser extent Spanish and Central-European oak barrels. Bodegas Muga has its own coopery, one of the few Spanish wineries that still produce their own barrels. Every 4 months a racking is done by gravity, without moving the barrel and by candlelight in order to see the clarity of the wine better.

The wine is clarified with fresh egg whites, and once bottled remains in the winery for at least 9 months for the vintages and 36 for the Prado Enea Gran Reserva.

MUGA WINERY WINES

Bodegas Muga offers a wide range of wines that in terms of reds range from Muga Crianza, the baby of the family, to the prestigious Torre Muga, and Muga Prado Enea Gran Reserva, which has has been very successful internationally.

Besides the reds, the two jewels of the house must be mentioned: Muga Blanco and Muga Rosado. A white and a rosé that have spent time in barrels and turn out to be truly amazing.
