Moscatel Superior Emilín is a sweet wine produced by Bodegas Lustau located in Jeréz de la Frontera, D.O. Jerez-Xerés -Sherry.
Bodegas Lustau, founded by José Ruiz-Berdejo i Veyan in 1896, has evolved from its beginnings as a stock keeper. Nowadays, they have 3 wineries in the different cities of the Sherry Triangle, Jeréz de la Frontera, Puerto de Santa María and Sanlúcar de Barrameda.
Bodegas Lustau has two vineyards in the Sherry Triangle, Viña Montegilillo, with white clay soils (albariza), very appropriate for the cultivation of Palomino. From this variety they obtains the musts for the production of manzanilla, fino, amontillado and oloroso wines. And Viña Las Cruces, near the coast, with sandy soils where they cultivate Muscatel and Pedro Ximénez, which they use for the production of sweet wines.

To maximise the sugars of the grape, the harvest is very late, thus avoiding a prolonged sun exposure that may rot the grapes. The fermentation stops early to preserve the natural sugars of the grapes. The ageing lasts for 8 years, on average, through the traditional system of "Soleras" and "Criaderas" in American oak butts.
Moscatel Superior Emilín is a sweet, intense and elegant wine. On the nose, it is fragrant, with aromas of sweet bakery that stand out, flowery notes and a citric finish of orange and lime peel. In the mouth, it is enveloping, with a light citric freshness that make it easy to drink.

The system uses stacked barrels, where a portion of a barrel’s contents is extracted and mixed with the lower barrel, with the barrel then filled with the contents of the upper barrel. Thus, the new wine is gradually coming to be thanks to the age of the rest of the content of screeds.
