Mercenario Tinto is a biodynamic red wine made in jars by Fazenda Agrícola Augalevada with the native Brancellao, Souson, Caíño Tinto and Espadeiro varieties in the DO Ribeiro (Galicia).
The Fazenda Agrícola Augalevada winery was built by Lago Garrido next to the San Clodio Monastery, in the heart of Ribeiro (Orense). As the first certified biodynamic producer in the area, they know how to get the best out of sloping granite soils to grow native varieties and produce lively, fresh and smooth wines with a strong identity.
Mercenario Tinto comes from organically and biodynamically cultivated vines planted on a terraced hill that is difficult to access. Sheep and cattle graze among the vineyards and plant-based treatments are used to preserve the natural balance of a mainly granitic terroir with all the microorganisms that are part of a living soil.
When the Mercenario Tinto grapes have been manually harvested, they are trodden very gently and left to macerate for 35 days. They then ferment spontaneously with native yeasts. The wine is then placed in 500- and 600-litre barrels, with a third in 400-litre jars for 7 months.
Mercenario Tinto is a fresh, smooth and lively wine. This red wine is made following biodynamic principles, with the time it spends in a jar giving it a unique and very special profile.
