Characteristics of Mendall Abeurador blanc
Mendall Abeurador Blanc is a white wine produced by Laureano Serres in Pinell de Brai, Tarragona. Laureano Serres is one of the biggest advocates for natural wines in Spain. He is a pioneer in producing natural wines, using natural techniques both on the vineyard and at the winery, with no chemical products being used at any stage of production.
Mendall Abeurador Blanc is made exclusively with the Macabeu grape variety, planted on calcareous-clay soils. The grapes are pressed after a day of maceration, and undergo fermentation for 15 days in amphorae without any temperature control. The wine is then left to stabilize for 6 months in stainless steel tanks.
This is a white wine full of character, which just improves with time in the bottle. This is a dry wine with a great structure and good acidity. It is important to keep this wine in the right conditions, keeping it at temperature lower than 16ºC.
Wines from Terra Alta boast a unique character. This is down to numerous factors, including the region's unique wine culture, the location of the vineyards in the inland Mediterranean, and the abundance of native varieties including the Garnacha Blanca, whose white wines perhaps best express the unique character of the terroir. It is for this reason that these wines hold their own distinctive classification of “Terra Alta Garnacha Blanca”.
