Characteristics of Melior 3
Melior 3 is a red wine produced by the winery Bodega Matarromera in Valbuena de Duero (Valladolid), D.O.Ribera del Duero.
Bodega Matarromera was created in 1988, when Carlos Moro decided to build his own winery in Valbuena de Duero, in the heart of D.O. Ribera del Duero.
In this same area, called the "golden mile" Bodega Matarromera has more than 200 hectares of their own vineyard, with vines of different ages, mainly cultivating the variety of the region, the Tempranillo or Tinto Fino. They have different farms to make their single-vineyard wines, apart from their classical wines, qualified in the D.O. as Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva.
Bodega Matarromera's wine warehouses are semi-buried in the north hillside of the Duero Valley, where more than 2,000 oak barrels rest for the ageing of their wines. They also have state-of-the-art technology, without leaving behind the traditional know-how of the area.
Melior 3 is a wine made from Tempranillo and Tinta de Toro from three different farms, located at 700-800 metres, with vines planted on sandy, loam-calcareous soils.
Once the grapes are harvested, the fermentation begins in stainless steel deposits at a controlled temperature, without exceeding 26ºC, for 10 to 14 days. The wine is aged for 12 months in French and American oak barrels. The three farms are all vinified at once, and the first ageing is carried out separately in American oak barrels. Once the coupage has ended, they finish their ageing process in French oak barrels.
Melior 3 is a structured, ample and lingering wine. Elegant notes of ripe black fruit blend with the toastings of the ageing with mineral hints.
