Characteristics of Matarromera Crianza

Matarromera Crianza is a red wine from the Ribera Del Duero, produced by Bodegas Matarromera. The winery, located in the municipality of Valbuena de Duero (Valladolid), has plots on the northern slopes of the Douro Valley.

Matarromera Crianza is made from 100% Tempranillo. The grapes come from vineyards planted at an altitude of 800m above-sandy-clay loam in Pago de San Roman, 180ha ground.

The harvest is done manually during the month of October.

For the preparation of Matarromera Crianza, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks for 10-14 days at a controlled temperature of 26 ° C.

Afterwards, Matarromera Crianza is aged for 14 months in barrels of French and American oak and then spends 10 months aging in bottle.

Tasting notes Matarromera Crianza

The 2015 vintage started with a winter that had good groundwater reserves. The spring was warm and dry until well into the month of June, when there were intense rainfall at the beginning of the blooming. A summer with some well spread out storms gave way to a very dry autumn. The harvest was slightly ahead of the usual dates, but the analytical and organoleptic features, and the balance of the berries, were ideal. Thus enabled the harvest to take place at the optimal ripening time. The wines from this vintage, which was classified as excellent, have a good colour intensity, significant fruity notes on the nose and a high tannic potential in the mouth, with sweet tannins that indicate the good phenolic ripening of the berries. A vintage reminiscent of the exceptional 2005 vintage.
After the withering in a mild winter, the warm start of spring brought sprouting forward by almost 10 days. The summer, which was quite cool and dry, enabled the good evolution of the growth cycle and a balanced ripening. This was a vintage without setbacks. Worth mentioning is the high production of this vintage due to good climatic behaviour during the harvest. The wines from this vintage have great colour intensity, and a high fruity expression on the nose and in the mouth. Their balance and tannic potential stand out; these features show us the great potential to produce great wines for ageing, and for lighter and fruitier productions.
This was a complicated year. Although the sprouting of the vines was slightly early, the low temperatures recorded during the spring delayed the growth cycle, which no longer recovered in the summer, despite having a warm month of July. The harvest was carried out at a fast pace, and with the extra effort of the viticulturers, who discarded the fruit that did not meet the optimal conditions. This way, they made sure that they avoided the probable effect of the botrytis attacks due to the rains they had around this time. The wines from this vintage, rated as a good one, offer good colour intensity, great fruit expression and a lot of freshness.
Sight Cherry red with violet hues, clean and bright. Nose Good aromatic intensity. Presence of ripe black fruit (blackberries, plums, blueberries) with toasted notes, spices and liquorice. Taste Powerful and fleshy entry. Step is tasty and fruity with hints of black fruit and spicy sensations. Good acidity. Medium finish.
Sight This wine has a dark red, almost purple color. Clean and bright.
Nose Intense and complex aroma. Ripe dark fruits such as blackberries and redcurrant blended in perfect harmony with: roasted, coffee, liquorice, vanilla, cocoa and woody aromas. Taste A tasty, powerful, elegant and very intense wine. Rather tasty on the palate. Fruits, spices.
Sight Dark red, almost violet colour. Clean and bright.
Nose Intense and complex nose. Ripe black fruit like blackberries, blueberries and redcurrents in perfect harmony with roasted notes, coffee, liquorice, vanilla, cocoa and aromas from the wood. Taste We find ourselves before a tasty, powerful, elegant and very intense wine. A very tasty palate with fruity and spicy flavours.
Sight Beautiful and intense ruby red colour with violet reflections. High robe. Clean and bright wine with abundant tears. Nose Its nasal aromas show a high intensity and a great powerness, where the notes of very ripe black fruit (blackberries, cherries and blackcurrant) stand out in excellent harmony with the spiced clean-wood aromas provided during the ageing, the roasted notes and the hints of liquorice, coffee, vanilla and cacao. Taste In the palate, this wine is tasty, intense, well-bodied and elegant. It shows a wide and lively mid palate, marked by the balance between the powerful ripe tannins, which guarantee a long ageing to this wine, and its magnificent acidity. Its powerful and voluminous very long finish is followed by a fruity and spiced aftertaste.
Sight The tasting repport of this wine is being translated. Meanwhile, you can check the Spanish version.
Sight At the visual stage, this wine shows a dark purple colour with a violet trim. Great robe, clean and bright.
Nose Good harmony of primary varietal aromas of ripe black fruit (strawberries, figs, blackberries) with dairy tannins and other ageing tertiary aromas with spicy hints of new wood. Hints of roasted, licorice, coffee, leather and cocoa.
Taste Rich, powerful, big and elegant palate. Thick sweet well integrated tannins. Generous and comprehensive mid palate in perfect balance with the notes of fruit and spicy. Powerful, bulky, long and silky finish.
Sight In visual stage shows covered layer, clean and bright. Nose The nose is intense and complex, overlooking the vanilla, leather and liquorice, much like the wine Matarromera Gran Reserva 1999, but less finesse. Taste In the mouth, is round and fleshy, with a nice tannin and finish elegant and harmonious.

Around 30 years ago, many wineries in the Ribera del Duero began to come out from under the shadow of the legendry Spanish winery Vega Sicília. Small, medium and large wineries began producing reds that aroused the passion of experts and international wine critics harvest after harvest. Over time big names and reputations began to forge. One of these was Matarromera, a winery founded back in 1988 in Valbuena de Duero, where there noble reds have been able to deliver year after year.
