Characteristics of Mas Tortó
Mas Torto is a red wine produced by the Celler de Capçanes winery in Montsant.
Celler de Capçanes is a cooperative in Capçanes, a town located in the Priorat region. The cooperative was founded in 1933 and was originally dedicated to making wine in bulk. It was in 1990 with the arrival of Angel Teixidó, current winemaker, that Celler de Capçanes exchanged this for producing wines of great quality.
Mas Torto is a complex blend with Grenache as the main variety, with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah.
The grapes come from old vines between 50 and 70 years old planted on terraces on clay and granite soils with granite.
The harvest is done manually. Different varieties are vinified separately.
Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature between 27 and 29ºC. After the fermentation, maceration takes 18-30 days.
The malolactic fermentation begins in tanks and ends in barrels. Mas Torto spends 12 months aging in new French oak barrels. After this, it rests in the bottle for 3 months prior to marketing.
Mas Torto is an intense and velvety Montsant with a strong mineral character.

The DO Montsant is situated in the province of Tarragona, surrounding the DOQ Priorat. Although a young Denominación de Origen, The DO Monstant is located in a land with a large history in winemaking. The wines, mostly reds, are typically made with Grenache and Carignan grapes and are authentic, wild and artisanal. Wines produced in this region are usually extremely good value given the high quality.
