Characteristics of Mas d'en Compte Blanc

Mas d'en Compte Blanc is a white wine from D.O. Priorat produced by Celler Cal Pla located in Porrera. Celler de Cal Pla is a small family-run winery that has been making wines since 1814. Knowledge and passion put into practice from time immemorial which has been passed on until the current seventh generation.

The vineyard is 15 years old, on average, oriented southwest on slate soils that produce around 1.5 kg of grapes per vine. The varieties that Mas d'en Compte Blanc includes are: 50% White Grenache, 25% Picapoll Blanc, and 25% Xarello. They are all harvested manually.

Mas d'en Compte Blanc is macerated for one day with its skins, and it ferments and ages with its lees in new French oak barrels (70%) and American oak (30%).

This wine is perfect for lovers of white wines with volume, unctuous and with aromas provided by the ageing in the barrel.

Tasting notes Mas d'en Compte Blanc

Mas d'en Compte Blanc 2014 is a mature, complex and structured white wine. This vintage stands out for its surprising freshness, already detectable on the nose. Aromas of white stone fruit with citrus notes blended to perfection with the smoky aromas of aging. On the palate it is silky, with volume and with this freshness that makes it very lingering.
A year that started with some problems with the flowering but ended up being very good. Winter was colder and rainier than usual. Spring continued with days of low temperatures and a lot of water that delayed flowering and the consequent setting problems until the end of March, affected production. After a complicated year, when the summer began, the rains stopped and the temperatures rose, providing excellent ripening due to optimal rainfall during the year. The year has therefore been one of the best in recent years. Fluidity, acidity and concentration augur for a long life of the wines of this vintage.
Sight Yellow in colour. Nose Subtle white fruit aromas with mineral notes. Hints of honey, sweet and smoky spices. Taste A creamy texture with a well-marked mineral character and smoky notes. Elegant and long finish.
Sight Clean golden yellow colour. Nose The toasted notes and the aromas of citrus and yellow fruit are noticed on a very mineral background. Taste Embracing, well-bodied wine with a very good acidity and a nice structure. Long and persistent finish reminiscent of notes of yellow fruit and toasted aromas.
Sight Nice bright and very clean golden yellow colour with thin and slow-falling tears. Nose Very intense and elegant aromas with abundant notes of ripe fruit, which range from the aromas of tropical and citrus fruits to the notes of yellow stone fruit. Some marked toasted and smoked aromas are also released along with lots of creamy notes of pastries and butter, light hints of spices and some subtle floral nuances. Intense mineral background. Taste Full-bodied, powerful and very tasty, clean and elegant wine with a very good, bulky and embracing attack. It has a long, very tasty and dense mid palate in which the notes of fruit becomes very intense, along with the toasted and smoked aromas, which are more marked than in the nose. It shows a very good acidity and a perfect structure. Very long and persistent finish with fruity sensations and a smoky aftertaste. Great wine that will not leave anybody indifferent.

    Winery Cal Pla

    Priorat is craftsmanship and tradition, old and robust vines that are grown and born deep inside the province of Tarragona. They are grown on slopes that are sleety with low fertility and difficult to grow in. In Priorat they produce great red wines of an excellent quality, a maroon colour, robust, dense and rich flavour, intense aromas and sometimes there are reflections present of minerals from the soils.
