Characteristics of Martinet Bru

Martinet Bru is a red wine from the Priorat developed by Mas Martinet Viticultors. It is a blend of Grenache and Syrah.

The grapes used for Martinet Bru comes from the Mas Torrent estate, located in the area of Masos de Falset and owned by the winery.

This property stands out for its slate soils, stony and fresh. Martinet Bru is fermented in wood with its lees and washed carefully. These processes are carried out throughout the fermentation.

Martinet Bru ages, after these processes of winemaking, in 4000 litre vats for 18 months (66% of the total) and in barrels of 300 litres of new or nearly new French oak.

Martinet Bru is bottled without going through any clarification.

The Mas Martinet winery was founded in 2000 and is today one of the most renowned wineries in the Priorat.

Tasting notes Martinet Bru

The Priorat region was marked by heavy drought and heat. Following an autumn and winter with normal temperatures and rainfall, spring began with an abnormal drought and high temperatures. Flowering was successful, occurring before the expected date, but the rains didn’t come. During the summer the high temperatures continued, and the lack of rainfall resulted in the earliest harvest in history. In general, the wines of this vintage are noted for their concentration, being less pronounced in wines produced with local varieties such as Grenache or Cariñena. Perfect for enjoying young, and with a medium aging capacity.
A vintage with a good acidity that has suited Martinet Bru very well. Still in its youth, the wine has a slightly more tannic part but with a light, roasted background. Perfect for getting started in Priorat wines.
The vintage began in autumn in the best possible way, with good rainfalls that would fill the water reserves for optimal growth development. Winter was characterised by low temperatures and even snow covered some areas of Priorat. March started wet and cold, which delayed the budding of the vines. In mid-May, flowering was encouraged and was followed by a somewhat unstable June with several rainfalls.
A year with a very good balance. This vintage was characterised by the absence of water stress for the plants. Winter and spring were favourable in terms of rainfall and temperatures were slightly higher than usual. At the time of budding, there was no rain, so the vines developed in a suitable manner. The flowering took place in a clean way and the Grenache vines settled in an excellent way. Summer was characterised by cool and dry days, but also humid, which led to good photosynthesis and growth of the plants. During the end of the summer, before the harvest, there was still some humidity, which preserved the freshness of the soil and, consequently, achieving a gradual ripening of the grapes, perfect to retain the aromas and the good acidity. The negative factor was the rain during the harvest days. In short, the vintage has been somewhat atypical for Priorat, with wines that are less voluminous than in a normal year in the area, but with a good acidity that is reflected in the wines and that will keep them optimal for many years.
Sight Dark cherry, upper middle layer. Bright and violet tints. Nose Intense ripe black fruit with notes of liquorice and minerals. Spicy background and floral notes. Taste Large, tasty and powerful. It presents dry tannins and a lingering finish, hints of wood and minerals.
Sight Intense, dark cherry red. A medium-high robe. A bright, purple rim. Nose Intense, dark fruit tones on the nose accompanied by liquorice and an intense minerality. Good, spiced undertones with pleasant, toasted notes and subtle floral aromas. Taste A good, broad attack. A flavourful and powerful mid palate. Dry, somewhat hard tannins. A very persistent finish that leaves complex fruit, wood and mineral notes.
Sight Intense dark cherry colour, with a medium-high robe and violet edges. Bright. Nose Intense ripe black fruit, almost jam and with a touch of liquor, which is released along with intense notes of licorice and abundant minerals. Nice spicy background with good toasted notes and subtle floral aromas. Taste Typical Priorat wine with a wide entrance and a tasty and powerful mid palate. Dry and slightly hard tannins. Complex finish that leaves a persistent aftertaste of fruit, wood and minerals.

    Winery Mas Martinet

    Priorat is craftsmanship and tradition, old and robust vines that are grown and born deep inside the province of Tarragona. They are grown on slopes that are sleety with low fertility and difficult to grow in. In Priorat they produce great red wines of an excellent quality, a maroon colour, robust, dense and rich flavour, intense aromas and sometimes there are reflections present of minerals from the soils.

    Josep Lluis Perez was one of the pioneers behind what was widely seen as the revival of Priorat. The Perez Ovejero family founded the Mas Martinet winery in 1989, paying special attention to the orientations, varieties, climate and soils of the area. Twenty years later, it is his daughter Sara who is now in charge, managing the vineyard, which is also home to olive trees and forests. The winery has worked to recover native and traditional varieties, using biological agriculture to ensure that they produce wines that are a real reflection of the landscapes, terroir and surroundings from where they came.
