Characteristics of Martin Muthenthaler Mühldorfer Riesling
Martin Muthenthaler Mühldorfer Riesling is an organic white wine aged on lees made with the Riesling variety by Martin Muthenthaler in Wachau (Lower Austria).
Martin Muthenthaler is a winegrower who has broken free from Wachau conventionality and follows the exclusive style of his teacher Veyder-Malberg. Firstly, he does not classify his wines with the usual Smaragd, Ferderspiel and Steinfeder labels, which can sometimes harm the original Grüner Veltliner star variety, and instead he produces vibrant, mineral wines with wonderful tension.
Martin Muthenthaler Mühldorfer Riesling comes from 3 hectares spread over several plots lying on terraces in a valley near the Danube known as Spitzer Graben. These strains are ecologically cultivated with the least possible intervention and maximum biological diversity. All the work is manual and the harvest takes place at the optimum point of ripeness.
In the winery, Martin Muthenthaler Mühldorfer Riesling is vinified using innovative technologies that emulate the oldest techniques. First the grapes are pressed very gently for 12 hours. The must is then fermented in large old barrels that are almost 70 years old.
Martin Muthenthaler Mühldorfer Riesling is a white wine where the reigning white variety adopts the purity of Moselle wines and the breadth of Wachau wines. A vibrant, fresh Riesling with wonderful minerality.
