Characteristics of Martín Códax Organistrum

Martín Codax Organistrum is a white wine from the D.O. Rías Baixas made by Martín Codax. This wine is named after this unique instrument (Organistrum) that needs to be played by two people. Only two replicas exist now and one of them is used by the Grupo de Música Antiga Martín Códax in their performances.

This wine has been made with a selection of grapes from southeast facing vineyards. It's partially made in the barrel.
After the fermentation, the wine ages for four months in Allier French oak barels. During the first month and a half the battonage technique is applied. Once both fermentations finish, it is kept in stainless steel deposits for 8 months to achieve a good integration.

Tasting notes Martín Códax Organistrum

Sight Intense straw yellow colour with with golden glimmers. Clean and bright. Dense and flowing tears on the glass show its glyceric character. Nose Medium-intensity nose with complex fruity aromas and a lightly toasted background. Vegetal notes stand out along with clean notes of wood. Taste This wine is elegant on the palate with broad attack. Very well supported by toasted notes and fruit which evolve well, and an integrated acidity. This wine requires time to open up and show its aromatic potential of green fruit with herbal notes on a vanilla background. Long finish thanks to the clean, fruity notes felt at retro-olfaction that prolong the nuance.
Sight Pale straw yellow colour with golden reflections. Clean and bright wine with unctuous, dense tears. Nose Good aromatic intensity that gains in complexity when the wine opens up. The aromas of stone fruit and citrus with a touch of tropical fruit are mixed with the notes provided by the wood: vanilla, cedar, nuts and refined toasted notes. Light hints of nuts and some honey touches are also felt and provide a good complexity to this wine. Its fresh herbal background is dominated by fresh, wet and freshly cut green herbs. Taste A well-bodied wine with a very good and wide attack and a silky, unctuous, tasty, fresh and dry mid palate. The notes of fruit and wood are very well integrated. It has an excellent acidity and a long and persistent finish which leaves toasted sensations. An elegant wine that will surprise us.
Sight Pale straw yellow with light golden sparkles. Nose Medium intensity with complex aromas. An important load of fruit is noticed along with delicate concentrated aromas on a slightly toasted background. Notes of green herbs. Taste In the mouth, its elegance leaves no one indifferent. Large attack and silky and intense mid palate with notes of ripening fruit and toasted. Integrated acidity and lingering finish.

Designation of Origin D.O. Rías Baixas

Winery Martín Códax

Rías Baixas wines would not be where they are today without the native Albariño grape variety. Although red wines are also produced in Rías Baixas, practically 100% of Rías Baixas wines are white. Among them, the vast majority of them are made with the Albariño grape. As well as young wines, fresh and aromatic, the region also makes wines aged in the barrels, complex wines with great personalities. Albariño wines can either be single varieties, or be part of a blend with other characteristic grapes of the region: Treixadura, Loureira Blanca and Godello.

Imágenes y situación D.O. Rías Baixas

The first Albariño with the Martín Códax label was made from the 1986 harvest. Its name evokes the figure of a medieval poet and illustrious troubadour, and it was the first serious project in Rías Baixas to definitively challenge the image of sparse and cloudy wine. After years of hard work, large investments and difficult decisions, this winery has demonstrated that it not only holds a sixth sense for foretelling new trends in the wine market, but can also execute them with impeccable skill.
