Tasting notes Martín Codax Albariño

The 2017 vintage has been distinguished by the excellent health of the vineyard and the intense heat. Winter and spring were warmer than normal, accelerating the growth cycle 15 days and which was prolonged during summer, bringing forward the date of the harvest to the end of August. The growth cycle went smoothly, with good flowering and no notable pests. In summer, the drought worsened and in August they began to see symptoms of dehydration in the bunches. However, rains at the beginning of September restored the balance of the vineyard. The wines of this vintage are identified by having something more volume due to its warmth and great freshness. A vintage to enjoy young, or as it is the norm for great wines of the area, to save for a few years.
Sight Bright lemon yellow with greenish hues. Nose Medium intensity, ripened citric notes and floral aromas on a herbal base. Taste Fresh and balanced. Enveloping citric notes.
Sight Straw yellow with lemon coloured reflections. Clean and bright, with some slight bubles showing its youth. Nose Floral notes like touch-me-nots, jasmin etc., citrus fruit (orange, grapefruit etc) and fleshy white fruit like apples. Taste Enwrapping sensation on the palate, with a well integrated acidity and a long retro-olfaction with persistent notes of white and citrus fruit.

Sight Straw yellow colour with greenish reflections. Clean and bright. Nose Very clean nose with intense varietal aromas. Its floral notes are released along with intense aromas of not very ripe stone fruit and some touches of citrus. Taste Nice bulky attack, with a silky, smooth texture. This wine has a well-integrated acidity which provides it with a good freshness. Some very personal mineral and saline touches are also felt. A white wine with a long finish in which the aromas found on the nose are noticed again. A good Albariño wine.
Sight Intense straw yellow colour with green and yellow reflections. Very bright and slightly glyceric wine. Nose Very straight wine, with sharp aromas of citrus and white fruit which are released interspersed with intense floral notes on an expressive, subtle, fresh and herbal background. Taste Voluminous attack and an oily, fresh and tasty mid palate. The aromas found in the nose are felt again in the mouth along with a subtle saline touch. Very good acidity and a long and lingering finish which leaves fruity sensations.
Sight Greenish straw yellow with ripe lemon tones. Bright and attractive. Fine pearls. Nose Intense and elegant aromas. Powerful aromas of green apple with flavours of herbs and a subtle mineral touch. Taste Thin pearls that surprise in the palate. Fresh and very expressive mid palate. Designation of Origin D.O. Rías Baixas

    Winery Martín Códax

Rías Baixas wines would not be where they are today without the native Albariño grape variety. Although red wines are also produced in Rías Baixas, practically 100% of Rías Baixas wines are white. Among them, the vast majority of them are made with the Albariño grape. As well as young wines, fresh and aromatic, the region also makes wines aged in the barrels, complex wines with great personalities. Albariño wines can either be single varieties, or be part of a blend with other characteristic grapes of the region: Treixadura, Loureira Blanca and Godello.

Imágenes y situación D.O. Rías Baixas

The first Albariño with the Martín Códax label was made from the 1986 harvest. Its name evokes the figure of a medieval poet and illustrious troubadour, and it was the first serious project in Rías Baixas to definitively challenge the image of sparse and cloudy wine. After years of hard work, large investments and difficult decisions, this winery has demonstrated that it not only holds a sixth sense for foretelling new trends in the wine market, but can also execute them with impeccable skill.
