Characteristics of Marmellans Negre
Marmellans Negre is a red wine from Montsant produced by the Celler de Capçanes winery. This winery is located in the Priorat, within the province of Tarragona and is the result of the union of several families from the village of Capçanes where a cooperative of 125 members emerged in 1933.
Marmellans Negre is made from Garnacha (60%) and Carignan (40%). The grapes come from old vines between 30 and 60 years old, planted on clay and granite soils.
To produce Marmellans Negre, destemmed grapes are macerated cold. Then the juice is fermented at a temperature of 24-28°C and a malolactic fermentation is performed in tanks. Finally, the wine spends about 10 months in stainless steel tanks.

Ratings for the vintages from the D.O. D.O. Montsant
The DO Montsant is situated in the province of Tarragona, surrounding the DOQ Priorat. Although a young Denominación de Origen, The DO Monstant is located in a land with a large history in winemaking. The wines, mostly reds, are typically made with Grenache and Carignan grapes and are authentic, wild and artisanal. Wines produced in this region are usually extremely good value given the high quality.
We can say that today Celler de Capçanes is an exemplary cooperative and a solid project. Vibrant and in constant progress, where they always advocate for research and development, carrying out different projects, especially with the Red Grenache variety. Their collection of wines Nits de Garnachas, clearly represent the soils where they are from and the emotions of those who work the land and produce the wine.
