Characteristics of Mark Angeli La Lune Amphora

Mark Angeli La Lune Amphora is a single-variety Chenin Blanc white wine produced by the La Ferme de la Sansonnière winery as a Vin de France, in the Loire Valley, France.

Mark Angeli La Lune is a single-variety Chenin Blanc that spends a year aging in barrels. This Mark Angeli La Lune Amphora is a the same wine but aged in amphorae that are buried for a year. The grapes used to make the Mark Angeli La Lune Amphora wine come from vineyards with clay and limestone soils in the lower part of the Angeli estate. The vines range in age from 4 to 80 years old and are cultivated under the principles of biodynamic agriculture.

The combination of the different vine ages, the characteristics of the soils and the aging in amphorae work together to create a surprising and beautiful wine that is an even more pure version of one of the area’s most representative varieties. This variety is usually used to make sweet wines, especially in the area where Mark Angeli has his estate.

La Ferme de la Sansonnière is Mark Angeli’s farm-winery that is managed as a small, sustainable and balanced ecosystem. Angeli, who previously worked in a quarry, became a winemaker and farmer, and has a great awareness of the natural wine movement. He uses minimal intervention, and minimal sulphites if needed, paying great attention to where they come from. The sulphites are taken from a volcanic area instead of using petrochemicals, and this information is on every wine label to keep consumers informed.
