Characteristics of Maravides 12 meses
Maravides 12 meses is a red wine from Castilla La Mancha produced by Bodegas y Viñedos Balmoral. This wine is a blend of 4 different grape varieties: Tempranillo, Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The grapes used to make Maravides 12 come from vinyards situated in municipality of Alpera, in Albacete. The vineyards lie at an altitude of around 1000 metres, which results in not only the grapes but also the wine containing a great freshness.
The harvest of the grapes is carried out manually, plot by plot. At the winery the grapes are deposited using gravity into small containers at a low temperature. This process obtains the free-run juice, which is subsequently fermented in tanks at a controlled temperature.
The different varieties of grapes undergo the vinification process seperately. After being blended and before being bottled, Maravides 12 is aged for 12 months in french and american oak barrels.
This production area has always been one of the most striking in the nation’s geography, for being the world’s leading vineyard in terms of cultivatable area, as well as for the volume of wine produced. Currently, all efforts are concentrated on improving the quality of the wines, and the achievements couldn’t be more spectacular, on a national scale as well as international, with prizes and awards demonstrating the wines’ quality and the deserving efforts of the wineries.
