Majas Chardonnay is a Chardonnay variety white wine made by the Majas winery in the VDP Côtes Catalanes.
Domaine de Majas is the name of the wine initiative started by Agnès and Allain Carrère in 1992 between the Fenouillèdes valley and the French Pyrenees. They currently have over 30 hectares of vineyards on their property, which they cultivate according to ecocert principles. The project also involves the collaboration of prestigious South African winemaker Tom Lubbe.
Majas Chardonnay comes from 35-year-old, organically-cultivated vineyards planted on clay-calcareous soils. The harvest is carried out manually at the optimum moment of ripeness.
The Majas Chardonnay must undergoes alcoholic fermentation with native yeasts and at a controlled temperature. Afterwards, 90% of the resulting wine ages on its own lees in stainless steel tanks, and the remaining 10% is aged in French oak barrels.
