La Rioja is one of the most important areas of wine production in the world. It has a long history, and exceptional soils and climates. From the Tempranillo and Grenache varieties they make great red wines that are masterfully aged which demonstrates the experience passed from generation to generation.
To talk about the Cañas family and wine we have to go back more than two centuries, although the winery, which still has the same family character, was founded in 1928. However, it was in 1970 when Luis Cañas printed his name on the label of his "harvester's wine". From this date onwards, the winery gradually experienced a rise in marketing, and started to develop what is nowadays one of the exemplary wineries of La Rioja Alavesa. Without taking refuge in excessive conservative traditionalism, the personality of Juan Luis, one of the most restless and innovative winemakers in the country, the experience and know-how of the winery team, have made it possible for their wines to be recognised with the most prestigious national and international awards.
