Characteristics of Loxarel Ops

Loxarel Ops is a wine from IO Penedès produced by the Loxarel winery. This is a wine blend which consists of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Tempranillo, which is rare in this region.

The winery includes Loxarel grapes from vineyards that are in the Alt Penedès, about 300 metres in altitude. For the preparation, a biological and biodynamic farming method is followed. Every four years, manure is used as a fertilizer.

Grapes are destemmed and undergo a process of maceration for 22 days in underground boxes. The tempranillo is aged for a period of six months in French oak barrels from Limousin. Can Mayol's farm, where the winery is, is also where the Mitjans family have spent five generations working to produce excellent wines. The hectares where vines are grown today were an airfield during the Civil War.

Loxarel plays with the name of one of the most typical varieties of the area, the Xarelo. The Mitjans family has known how to work this rich land for many years, making historic wines.

Sight

Bright red with purple hues. Middle layer.

Nose

Notes of vegetation together with Cabernet Sauvignon. Fruit aromas mixed with the sweetness of vanilla.

Taste

This wine combines the fruity nuances of Cabernet Sauvignon and toasted notes of Merlot. Hints of vanilla and Tempranillo. Easy to drink, long aftertaste with hints of spice.

Sight Cherry red colour with violet reflections. Medium robe. Not very tinted tears show on the glass. Nose Vegetable notes, typical of wines made with Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, which give way to fruity aromas (red berries). Taste Fruits from the Cabernet, Merlot and Tempranillo grapes, with toasted hints and vanilla from the partial ageing in French oak barrels. Silky but firm tannins.
Sight Cherry colour with violet trims. Bright.
Nose Expressive aromas. The vegetal notes give way to aromas of ripe fruit (red berries) and sweet spices.
Taste Tasty wine with silky mid palate with the notes of fruit typical of Cabernet and Tempranillo which appear with the toaches of toasted and vanilla typical of the partial aging of the Merlot. Good acidity. Ripe tannins. Long aftertaste with hints of sweet spices.

The sweetness of vanilla is displayed with elegance. Taste This wine comes from the combination of fruit from the Cabernet and Merlot with toasted vanilla and part of parenting. The result is a more modern and easy to drink wine. The acidity is well balanced by alcohol, the tannin is silky yet firm perfectly rounded whole. The post-taste is long and flavored with spices (vanilla, cinnamon).

D.O. Penedès

Winery Loxarel

Today, the D.O Penedès is experimenting with viticulture and winemaking like no other region in Spain, home to a vast range of different grape varieties. The region is home to traditional white and red varieties, foreign ones, noble ones, permitted grapes, experimental grapes, and those that demostrate intrinsic qualities. As well as the grapes, the production techniques used are also worth noting, the location of the vineyards, the yields per hectare, the wines produced using traditional, original or even exclusive blends, the different ageing times, as well as the complexity of the different barrels used! But the reality is, given the vast diversity, it can be difficult to pinpoint what really defines a wine from Penedès, since there are so many types of wines and wineries in the region. However, the common denominator of all the wines from Penedès continues to be balance and quality.
