Characteristics of Louis Jadot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Embazées
Louis Jadot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Embazées is a single-variety Chardonnay white wine made by Louis Jadot and classified as AOC Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru.
The Louis Jadot winery was founded in 1859 and also operates as a trader. They buy grapes to make wine as well as wine itself, which is then bottled with their branding. Pierre Henry Gagey has been the director since 1992. He is the son of André Gagey, who has owned the Domaine since 1954. Their wines are aged in barrels made by Cadus, a cooperage owned by the winery and founded in 1995.
The Louis Jadot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Embazées vineyard is located south of Chassagne-Montrachet, on the edge of the village of Santenay, next to other Premier Cru such as Les Baudines, Clos Pitois or Bois de Chassagne. The soil is calcareous clay, which is typical of the area.
Harvesting for the Louis Jadot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Embazées is carried out manually using small boxes so that the grapes reach the winery in tact. There, the grapes are gently pressed and fermented in barrels from the winery’s cooperage, a third of which are new. Finally, after fermentation, the wine is aged on lees in the barrels for up to 18 months. The aging takes place in barrels, a third of which are new every year.
