Characteristics of Los Arrotos del Pendón

Los Arrotos del Pendón is a monovarietal red wine made with Prieto Picudo grapes by Raúl Pérez.

The grapes for Los Arrotos del Pendón come from a 2 hectare plot that is 900 metres above sea level in the town of Pajares de Otero, in León. The plants are very old, about 110 years old, and produce high quality, concentrated and balanced grapes.

The bunches for Los Arrotos del Pendón are vinified whole, with the stems. Once the wine has been prepared, it is aged for 24 months in used French oak barrels. The used barrels allow the wine to continue evolving and become more rounded. Using this type of barrels the winemaker stays true to his style of showing the typical quality of the grape and the terroir without the new barrel masking them with their contributions of aroma and flavour.

Los Arrotos del Pendón is a wine made with the native Prieto Picudo variety by the renowned winemaker Raúl Pérez, and is characterised by its intense colour, acidity and soft tannin.

Los Arrotos del Pendón 2015 has meaty and smoky aromas, with hints of cassis, stone fruit, chocolate, violet and blackberry. On the palate it is an opulent wine that is very well formed, enveloping and velvety.

    The DO Tierra de León is one of the latest DOs to be officially established in Spain. The native Prieto Picudo grape variety is what helps set this region apart from anywhere else. Aside from the classic wines made using the ancient ‘madreo’ technique, with their semi sparkling rosé wines of the regionthis native variety also produces good quality young and aged red wines; they are very aromatic, with a wide persistence in the mouth, as well as a natural acidity that provides the wine with a strong freshness. The wines produced here are a reflection of the land on which they are grown and the climate, with a sense of authenticity and a uniqueness of the region.
