Characteristics of Les Paradetes

Les Paradetes is a natural biodynamic red wine made with Samsó (Cariñena), Sumoll and Garnacha Tinta varieties produced by the Escoda-Sanahuja winery in the D.O. Conca de Barberà.

Located in Montblanc (Tarragona), they started out in 1997 making organic wines. In 2003 they began using the biodynamic method and in 2007 they made wine without added sulphites. The Celler Escoda-Sanahuja winery is now known as a natural wine producer using biodynamic cultivation methods.

Being members of the Mediterranean Biodynamic Working Group and Natural Wine Producers, winemakers Joan Escoda and Ma Carmen Sanahuja make sure respecting the fruit is their main focus when making Les Paredetes. With some vines constantly sheltered by a plant cover and a self-managing ecosystem, they are able to extract the best grape from the strain in the most sustainable way.

In the winery the Les Paradetes grape ferments with natural yeasts from the vine in stainless steel tanks. It is then aged for 6 months in French oak barrels. The wine is neither filtered, clarified nor stabilised. They also do not add sulphites.

Tasting notes Les Paradetes

Les Paradetes 2017 is a smooth red wine with intense aromas of ripe red fruit, toasted notes and a herbaceous background. On the palate it is fresh and flavoursome with good acidity.
Sight Intense garnet red with a purple rim. Nose Very intense ripe red fruit aromas combined with very fine roasted notes. Herbal base. Taste Fresh and flavoursome, unctuous and somewhat velvety. Succulent red and tropical fruit flavours. Tasty and direct tannins. Good acidity.
Sight Intense cherry color with reflections "granatosos". Clean and bright. Nose Aromas of Mediterranean sotobosc (thyme, rosemary, ..) with a deep ore. Taste

Has an entrance with a silky smooth and long aftertaste.

    As with many other Catalonian wine regions, the DO. Conca de Barberà is developing its own territorial identity that over the years has been redefining the personality of the wines and the region, with the help of the red Trepat grape variety. The Trepat grape can be used to produce good sparkling rosés, rosés with character, fresh red wines, as well as elegant blanc de noirs. In just a few years the region and this grape variety have shown their potential, their versatility, and the possibility of carrying out R&D (Research and Development) with them. There are still few wineries who produce single variety wines using this grape, but most importantly, all of them have become aware of the obligation to enhance the uniqueness that defines the territory and the new style of wine to be imposed in the twenty-first century.
