Leirana Finca Genoveva is a white wine from Rías Baixas, prepared by Forges del Salnés (Pontevedra).
This is a small family owned winery under the hand of Rodrigo Mendez, grandson of Francisco Méndez, one of the founders of Rías Baixas. The winery also has the support of the famous Spanish winemaker, Raul Perez.
Leirana Finca Genoveva is a varietal Albariño. The grapes come from a single farm, Finca Genoveva, from old vines over 150 years old.
To prepare Leirana Finca Genoveva a harvest and manual selection is made. The wine is made in the traditional way, with minimal intervention in the process to keep the whole expression of the vineyard.
Once fermented, Leirana Finca Genoveva ages for 12 months in oak foudres.
The Albariño grape is a spanish white variety with a strong floral and terpene character, ideal for producing not only young fresh and aromatic whites, but also (barrel) aged wines. Initially the DO. Rías Baixes was only seen as a region of great hope for Spanish whites, but it has managed to turn this hope into reality.
Forjas del Salnés is a small winery situated in the appellation of origin Rías Baixas, in the subzone of Salnés. They produce wines following traditional methods passed down to each generation. Working in collaboration with Rául Pérez, a winemaker form Bierzo, recognised as one of the best winemakers in the Spanish panorama. Furthemore, the white wines are produced from old vines from the varietal Albariño, highlighting their red wines produced from varieties native to the region such as: Loureiro or the Caíño Tinto.
