Ledes is a single-variety Albariño white wine produced by the Casa Monte Pío winery in the D.O. Rías Baixas, in Galicia, Spain.
Casa Monte Pío is a family winery in the municipality of Ribadumia within the Val Do Salnés sub-region. Generation after generation have passed down their values and taken care of their vineyards with the aim of producing wines that capture the identity of their past and their land, which is where the Albariño grape expresses itself best.
The clusters used to make the Ledes wine come from their own vineyards with sandy, mineral soils and vines aged over 50 years old that are manually harvested in 15 kg boxes.
When the grapes reach the winery, they go through a second selection process followed by fermentation in stainless steel tanks with controlled temperatures. The resulting wine ages with its fine lees for 12 months. The cold of winter naturally reduces the tartaric acid and malolactic fermentation finishes during the mild spring. The wine is then rounded ready for bottling at the beginning of the summer following the harvest.
The Casa Monte Pío winery does not usually release its vintages consecutively. The vintage that goes on sale is the one that, having been tasted, is found to be in the perfect state for releasing to the market. If a vintage has not finished rounding, it rests in the cellar for as long as necessary, to make sure each wine is at its best at the time of consumption and respecting the unique characteristics of each vintage.
