Characteristics of Lacima

Lacima is a red wine from Ribeira Sacra produced by Dominio Do Bibei, a winery founded in early 2000 by a group of people deeply devoted to the land.

The climate in this area is Atlantic, characterized by a large temperature variation between seasons. This wine is a blend of Mencia (90%) and 10% of other varieties: Branmcellao, Mouratón, Souson and Grenache. The grapes come from vineyards between 50 and 100 years old, located at an altitude of between 300 and 700 metres. The vineyards are planted on different soil types: slate, clay and granite.
The harvest is done manually in boxes of 10 kg. After manual selection of grapes and stripping is carried out, there are 2 days of maceration, fermentation then occurs in open French oak barrels of 500 litres and malolactic fermentation in 300 litre barrels. Finally, Lacima rests for 19 months in French oak barrels before spending 16 months in the bottle.

Tasting notes Lacima

Sight Ruby red with a garnet rim, upper middle layer. Clear. Nose

On the nose, there are aromas of ripe black fruits with notes of spiciness, smokiness, herbs and coffee. It is a complex wine.

Taste

The palate is fresh, with a good acidity and ripe tannins. Notes of black fruit with spicy notes and minerals. Persistent finish.

Sight Ruby red with a maroon, medium-high rim. A clean look. Nose Prominent, dark, ripe fruit tones on the nose. Spiced, smoked, herbaceous, coffee and mineralized hints. This wine is complex, interesting and ages well. Taste Fresh on the palate with a full body, good acidity, and decent, mature tannins. Dark fruit preserves, and mineral, round spices. Good, persistent finish.

Winery Dominio do Bibei

The DO Ribeira Sacra is a region that perhaps paints one of the best pictures of heroic viticulture, having even been awarded recognition by CERVIM, the awarding body for this style of viticulture. The term ‘heroic viticulture’ refers to viticulture in areas that have a topography and soil conditions that complicate the work in the vineyards and make cultivating the vines and harvest a challenge. The region is home to an Atlantic climate, rivers as thermoregulatory agents, low rainfall, slate-schistose and granite soils, small sized plots and vineyards grown on steep slopes. The result is excellent wines with great personalities that truly express the dramatic and exciting nature of the landscape.
