Characteristics of La Poda Tinta de Toro
La Poda Tinta de Toro is a monovarietal Tempranillo red wine from the D.O. Toro produced by Finca Anzil.
Bodegas y Viñedos Anzil has 90 hectares of Tinta de Toro located in the Guareña river valley. Its Technical Director is Almudena Pool, the first Spanish woman to hold the prestigious title of Master of Wine. Bodegas y Viñedos Anzil is part of theBodegas Palacio 1894 group with a presence in La Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Rueda and Toro.
La Poda Tinta de Toro is a monovarietal Tempranillo wine. The grapes come from vineyards that are over 40 years old. At the beginning of the winemaking process, the grapes are cold macerated for 4 days to preserve the fruit aromas and to achieve a greater extraction of colour and mild tannins. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature, and the wine is finally aged in barrels for some 4 to 6 months.
La Poda Tinta de Toro is an ideal wine for aperitifs, for accompanying barbecues or various meat dishes. A mature, vibrant and spicy wine.
In Toro, the red wines are mainly made with the Tinta de Toro grape variety, planted on soils of fluvial origin by the influence of the Duero River and its tributaries, grown on poor, sandy and dry soils the further away you move from the river. Toro offers powerful wines, well bodied, flavourful, complex, and tannic. Although on a smaller scale, the region also produces white wines using the Verdejo and Malvasía varieties. Since the ´80’s, Toro has experienced a revival in its wines, thanks to a new generation of highly skilled winemakers and the installation of many big names in the region, such as Pintia, a winery belonging to the Vega Sicília group, or Teso la Monja, part of Sierra Cantabria.
