La Nieta is made of 100% Tempranillo grapes from a single property of 1.75 ha, after which the wine is named. This property is planted with 40-year-old vines which are treated with organic fertilizers twice a year. Tasting notes La Nieta

The autumn and winter of the new harvest began with lower rainfall and slightly higher temperatures. With the unusually high temperatures that occurred in the month of March, budding was considerably early. As a result of the frost endured on April 28, the earliest buds suffered a considerable loss of production. After the incident, the growth cycle proceeded normally, noted for the two different blooms that occurred due to the frost. The summer continued with high temperatures and little rainfall. It wasn’t until September that the phenolics and phenolic states came into balance. The result of waiting a little longer for the harvest helped achieve a balanced grape without green notes.
High summer temperatures define this vintage. After a mild winter with scarce rainfall, spring started with a lot of rain, which favoured the growth cycle of the vine. During the summer, they experienced very high temperatures and the absence of rain, which resulted in great, healthy vines. As a general result, this was a balanced year, where the final absence of rains led to a good concentration of grapes. This year is defined by a voluminous vintage that can be enjoyed from its youth.
After a winter with normal temperatures and rainfall for D.O.Qa Rioja, high temperatures in spring and summer market his year, as well as the absence of rain at the most dangerous times for the vineyard. These factors led to very healthy vines, but the harvest was brought forward three weeks on average. As a result, this year was rated as a very good one in the area, with the only drawback of not reaching full ripeness. Therefore, the wines from this vintage are those typical from Rioja, with a slightly higher alcoholic strength and a good balance between acidity and ripening.
It was a fairly balanced year until the harvest season arrived. The beginning of the cycle, in October, started with high temperatures, and it was not until mid-November that the first frosts began and the leaves of the vines began to fall to prepare for winter. Throughout the winter, rainfall was generous and water reserves could be secured for the growth cycle period. During the months of March and April, there was an increase in temperatures that led to the good sprouting of the plant. The growth cycle of the vines was suitable, and the sudden rise of temperatures resulted in quite a fast blooming. There was an optimal growth of the fruit, until the harvest season, when rains damaged the state of the grapes and caused a drop in production. This is a good vintage, but the last rains damaged the final result. The wines are good and can be drunk in the short- and mid-term, they have a medium body and material.
This vintage was marked by a very rainy and cold spring just at the time of the growth cycle. This fact caused it to ripen unevenly and with a certain delay. Thanks to a fairly dry September and October, the grapes that ripened with a certain delay were harvested in a selective manner. A complicated vintage, but with good results since there was an exhaustive selection of the grapes. A good balance between concentration and acidity in their youth define the wines from this vintage.
A good balance and few climate incidents define this vintage. The autumn began with mild temperatures and lack of rain. In March began the rain,as well as the development of the vines. At the beginning of the growth cycle of the vines, temperatures decrease and there were a lot of rainy days. This caused an irregular growth of the vineyard. After an unstable month of May, the temperatures increased, and a cycle without rains began. This resulted in perfect sprouts and a good flowering. The summer months were warm and with some heat waves, which caused a slower growth cycle and some symptoms of water stress, and thus a concentration of fruit. At the end of September, and before the harvest, there was some rain that was perfect for a great year thanks to the perfect ripening of the grapes. Good acidity and concentration define the wines from this vintage. Fine wines with a great ageing potential.
Sight The tasting repport of this wine is being translated. Meanwhile, you can check the Spanish version.
Sight Lively, intense and deep cherry red colour with violet reflections. Abundant even, slow-falling tears show on the glass. Nose La Nieta 2010 is more fragrant than previous vintages. It is both intense and delicate, full of nuances. Juicy and fleshy aromas of ripe black fruit are released, which give way to roasted aromas, sweet spices and floral notes. Profound balsamic, menthol and mineral notes in the background. Taste Fresh attack and a round, smooth, silky, velvety palate. Very elegant. Masterfully structured, with ripe, tame tannins and an excellent acidity. Very long and persistent finish. Fruity, spicy, toasted, lactic, balsamic and mineral notes felt at retro-olfaction. Delicate, complex, infinite.
Sight Picota cherry colour with violet reflections. Abundant, slow and even falling tears show on the glass. Nose La Nieta has an intense yet delicate nose, full of nuances. Juicy, fleshy, ripe black fruit stands out and gradually gives way to aromas of fine woods, sweet spices, floral notes and a balsamic, mineral background. Taste This wine shows fresh attack in the mouth and is round, smooth, silky, velvety and very elegant on the palate. It has fantastic structure, with ripe, tame tannins, an excellent acidity and a very long and persistent finish. At retro-olfaction fruity, toasted, lactic, balsamic, mineral and spicy notes appear. Delicate, complex, infinite.
Sight Intense red with violet edges. Very bright. Dense, slow-falling tears. Nose Its tasty notes of fruit appear on an appealing creamy background. When it opens up, balanced notes of wood, some toasted touches and sweet spices emerge complementing the fruit arômas without hiding them. Some delicate floral notes are also noticed on a good mineral background. Intense and pleasant nose. Taste From the first plunge this wine is round, and has a broad, bulky and full-bodied attack and a silky, creamy, intense mid palate. Its marked notes of black fruit are well integrated with the aromas of wood. It shows a very good acidity that provides an appreciated freshness. Tannins have a moderated presence. Long and lingering finish with a slightly bitter but pleasant mineral aftertaste. A great wine that will conquer us. A pleasure, a jewel.
Sight Dark red, very bright, with purple hues. Continous tear that dyes the cup. Nose Intensely aromatic complexity. We will find aromas of black fruit, toasted, milk, spices ( vanilla, cinnamon). All this with a sharp balsamic and mineral substance. As it opens, we will find more intensity. Taste Very good start, spacious, velvety and powerful. Present tannins but well integrated. Long and persistent aftertaste, with mineral presence. A very elegant wine.

The winery Bodega Sierra Cantabria is located in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, a village with a great winemaking tradition in the hear of La Rioja. The winery belongs to the Eguren family. A family that has been making wine for five generations in La Rioja, and with projects in other Denominations of Origin, such as Teso la Monja winery in D.O. Toro. The wines of Sierra Cantabria are wines with a classic Rioja style. They try to provide somewhat more modernity, leaving the wood in the background and making the fruit and the intensity stand out.
