Characteristics of La del Terreno Monastrell
La del Terreno Monastrell is a red wine produced by Julieta Casado, in Jumilla under the D.O. Jumilla.
Julieta is an entrepreneur who is eager to make strides of progress in the region. The winery is home to 3.5 hectares of Monastrell vineyards, which are cultivated organically. Its purpose is to produce wines in a traditional manner as they were before, as well as those which reflect the terrain.
Las del Terreno Monastrell undergoes a short maceration. Fermentation then is carried out without destemming in cement which helps bring about a certain freshness. Finally the wine is aged for 8 months in used 500 litre fudres.
DO Jumilla is located on a high plain in the eastern region of Spain, acting as a transition zone between the Mediterranean coastal area and the high central plateau of Castile-La Mancha. The vineyards of Jumilla are spread over the municipality of Jumilla, in Murcia, and six counties in the southeast of the province of Albacete: Ontur, Tobarra, Albatana, Hellin, Montealegre and Fuente Alamo. The main variety of the area is the Monastrell grape variety, a noble and robust variety which produces small bunches of small dark-coloured grapes very rich in sugars and other noble components.
