Characteristics of La Bienquerida

La Bienquerida is a red wine from the D.O Bierzo produced by the Losada Vinos de Finca winery. This wine is made using only Mencía (100%) grapes.

The grapes used for this wine are taken from a vineyard estate that gives the wine its name. The vines on the vineyard grow on clay, slate and stoney soils. The harvest is carried out manually and the bunches of grapes are transported with care to the winery in boxes of 20kg capacity. This way oxidisation of the grapes is avoivded as the grapes to not break under the excess weight.

On arrival at the winery`s facilites, the grapes pass through a selection table where only the fruit in the best condition are chosen to make the wine. Following this, the grapes are destemmed and are lightly pressed. Before this final ageing process, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation in barrels.

La Bienquerida then ages for 15 months in French oak barrels. This wine is bottled without being filtered, so its possible to find impurities. We recommend that you decant this wine and let it air before consumption.

Losado Vinos de Finca decided to save this vineyard when it was on the verge of disappearence. A small farm with a strong personality that cultivates mainly Mencía grapes, it was popular amongst the local people, because it consistently came out with great wines. Losado Vino de Finca has managed to put together this great product sticking to three main factors; good human work, an exceptional variety and a unique vineyard.

Tasting notes La Bienquerida

The 2015 vintage was characterised by low rainfall. The lack of water throughout the year brought the vegetative cycle of the vine forward and it was not until days before the harvest that it started to rain considerably. This caused the grape to hydrate and lead to a somewhat fresher vintage than what it initially seemed. The continental character that this vintage looked like it was going to have was mitigated by the rain before the harvest, balancing the phenolic ripeness, qualifying the vintage as excellent. The wines of this vintage have an excellent balance between structure, acidity and texture in the mouth. A vintage that can age perfectly.
The 2013 vintage was characterised by the influence of the Atlantic climate. Autumn and winter were the typical ones of El Bierzo, with abundant rainfall and low temperatures. Spring came in the same way, with some hail that destroyed crops in some places and lead to the delay in flowering. Summer did not make much of an appearance either, with low temperatures, ripening and the growth cycle were quite slow. The harvest date was delayed by 3 weeks.The wines of this vintage are characterised by a thin profile. The Atlantic climate left its mark on these lighter wines with a marked acidity. Ready to be stored.

Winery Losada Vinos de Finca

Bierzo wine is on the rise. It is a region defined by its small scale work, with plots scattered around, very old vines, artisan work of the small scale wineries, and the character of their principal variety, the Mencía grape, which produces fresh, fruity and delicious wines. Although the region is well known mostly for its red wines, it also produces white and rosé wines. If the red wines here are defined by the Mencía variety, then the white wines here are defined by the Godello. Godello grape has great aromatic potential, as well as an excellent balance between alcohol and acidity.  Despite the great potential of El Bierzo, its rise in the wine world would not have been possible without two people: Raúl Pérez and Ricardo Pérez. Two great winemakers who in little time have been able to produce critically acclaimed wines from the Bierzo region.
