Characteristics of Kracher Zweigelt
Kracher Zweigelt is a red wine made by the Kracher winery in the Bungerland region with the native Zweigelt variety.
For three generations, the Kracher family have been pioneers in the Seewinkel wine region. It was Alois Kracher Senior, in the 50s and 60s, who was the first to realise the area’s potential for making quality wines. Then his son (Luis) Alois Junior revolutionised the world of dessert wines and, today, his son Gerhard, is following in his father's footsteps. And although their flagship product is sweet wine, their dry wines have started to gain more and more enthusiastic fans due to their high quality.
Planted in the Lake Neusiedl area, the grapes used to make Kracher Zweigelt enjoy a unique microclimate. These are vineyards with a very low yield, providing exceptional quality grapes as a result. Once the grape reaches optimum ripeness, it is selected and harvested by hand.
In the winery, the Kracher Zweigelt grape is pressed and fermented in stainless steel tanks in long contact with selected yeasts. It then ages for 24 months in used oak barrels.
Kracher Zweigelt shows the best of a native variety and is wonderfully fruity, with a compact body and great aromatic power.
