Jhana is a rosé wine produced by the winery Castell d'Encús in Talarn (Lleida), D.O. Costers del Segre.
Castell d'Encús is the personal project of Raül Bobet. Located in the Pyrenean area of Pallars Jussà (Lleida), in a mountainous area with an altitude of 800 to 1000 metres, the farm has a chapel and some stone presses from the 12th century from Castell d'Encús, which uses them to make some of its wines. The orientation is mainly South-West with good protection from the cold northern winds.
Raül Bobet has an honest philosophy, based on maximum care of the vineyard, passion, the utmost dedication and respect for nature. The winery does not use any type of herbicide or pesticide in its agriculture. Its aim is to produce a limited amount of bottles entirely come from the fruit of their vines.
Jhana is a rosé wine made with Merlot and Petit Verdot from the winery’s vineyards located at around 1000 meters of altitude.
The grapes are manually harvested and placed in 10-kg boxes. Once they arrive at the winery, they are vinified in small 8-hl deposits with a short maceration at a low temperature. When the fermentation has ended, it is aged for 3 months in used French oak barrels.
The name Jhana refers to a type of meditation, to the silence of nature in the area of Pallars.
