Characteristics of Jacques Sélosse Brut Initial
Jacques Sélosse Brut Initial is an organic champagne made by Jacques Sélosse with the Chardonnay variety in Champagne (France).
Jacques Sélosse is a leading winery in Champagne. The current owner and son of the founder, Anselme Sélosse is known for his quest for perfection and has been an inspiration for the new generations of producers in the area. His organic sparkling wines are famous around the world for their purity, integrity and the perfectly controlled oxidative notes.
Jacques Sélosse Brut Initial comes from an estate in the city of Avize. It has 7.5 hectares of vineyards spread across 47 plots. These are Grands Crus that are organically cultivated without using any chemical products that could harm nature’s fragile balance. The harvest is carried out manually according to the colour of the seeds and the perfumes of the grape skin.
Jacques Sélosse Brut Initial is vinified in 228-litre Burgundy oak barrels, with a very small amount of new barrels, and no temperature control. Aging takes place on lees with regular batonnage. Then the base wines spend the first year in barrels and are then transferred to oak foudres. Following the traditional second fermentation, the disgorging date is printed on the back label of each bottle.
Known around the world for its high quality, Jacques Sélosse Brut Initial is a sparkling wine that is closer to a Burgundy wine with carbon dioxide than to a sparkling wine itself. A champagne with its own personality.
Jacques Sélosse Brut Initial is a sparkling wine with aromas of ripe yellow fruit, notes of dried fruit and light oxidative touches. On the palate it is fresh, unctuous and well-rounded. A cuvée with a good body and a subtle vinosity. The wood is very well integrated and the finish is deliciously mineral.
