Characteristics of Inés Vizcarra

Ines Vizcarra is a red wine from the D.O. Ribera del Dueroproduced by Bodegas Vizcarra in Mambrilla de Castrejon, a winery that was founded in 1991 by Juan Carlos Vizcarra, a passionate winemaker who decided to follow in his father's footsteps.

The climate in the D.O. Ribera del Duero is Mediterranean but continental in nature. It is characterized by a moderate-low rainfall, dry summers and long and harsh winters. Temperatures that vary considerably between seasons are recorded.

Inés Vizcarra
owes its name to Juan Carlos Vizcarra’s second daughter. It is a red wine coupage of 90% Tinto fino (50 year old strains) complemented by 10% Merlot (11 year old vines).

Fermented in open 400 liter barrels and 3 stirrings and battonage a day to extract as much from the grapes as possible. It is transferred to French and American oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and subsequent aging for 16 months.

This Inés is a concentrated and structured wine due to the coupage of grapes and their extraction at the time of production.

Tasting notes Inés Vizcarra

After the withering in a mild winter, the warm start of spring brought sprouting forward by almost 10 days. The summer, which was quite cool and dry, enabled the good evolution of the growth cycle and a balanced ripening. This was a vintage without setbacks. Worth mentioning is the high production of this vintage due to good climatic behaviour during the harvest. The wines from this vintage have great colour intensity, and a high fruity expression on the nose and in the mouth. Their balance and tannic potential stand out; these features show us the great potential to produce great wines for ageing, and for lighter and fruitier productions.
Regarding climate, the 2012 vintage started with the sprouting of the vines in the beginning of spring with the cooler temperatures. In May, generous rainfall and high temperatures gave way to a generalised drought throughout the summer. Luckily, the rains started at the onset of the ripening. The precipitations at the beginning of October, and the nice temperatures during the harvest, resulted in the a uniform phenolic ripening. The wines from this vintage have a good alcoholic strength, balanced by moderate levels of acidity, with a good colour and phenolic intensity, and a suitable level of tannins, all important features for a perfect ageing.
Sight An intense picota cherry colour with violet reflections. Clean and bright, with abundant, dense tears on the glass. Nose This nose is full of intense and persistent aromas. A good concentration of fruit appears at first and gives way to notes of dried fruit and spices, accompanied by cocoa and balsamic touches. Taste Inés Vizcarra 2009 is a tasty and elegant red wine It's fleshy, warming and silky, filling the mouth. Very good intensity with the fruit and the wood very well integrated. Very ripe tannins. Very long and persistent finish with toasted notes at retro-olfaction.

Imágenes y situación D.O. Ribera del Duero

The Vizcarra winery could well be cited as an example of what has been and, to a large extent, still is, Ribera de Duero. A family of winemakers, firmly attached to their roots, who created their own winery looking for a professional future for their children and the best use for their grapes. Using old vineyards and with careful handling in the winery, they produce wines with a great concentration of aromas and great elegance. Wines rooted in Ribera de Duero.
