Characteristics of Idus de Vall-Llach

Idus de Vall-Llach is an elegant and modern red wine that surprises us for its mineral notes provided by the old Carignan vines from Priorat. It is balanced and structured with the addition of a blend made of Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon…. The proportion is the following: 40 % Carignan, 15 % Grenache, 15 % Merlot, 20 % Cabernet Sauvignon and 10 % Syrah. 35% of the wine is aged for 16 months (during which the wine is only racked once) in new French oak barrels and the remaining 65% is aged in second-year barrels. It is recommended decanting this wine at least one hour before enjoying it.

Tasting notes Idus de Vall-Llach

Idus de Vall-Llach 2016 is a powerful, structured and mineral wine. A good vintage where the aromas of ripe black fruit stand out, with toasted notes over a very distinguished mineral base note. On the palate it is expressive, intense and with a very lingering finish.
The vintage began in autumn in the best possible way, with good rainfalls that would fill the water reserves for optimal growth development. Winter was characterised by low temperatures and even snow covered some areas of Priorat. March started wet and cold, which delayed the budding of the vines. In mid-May, flowering was encouraged and was followed by a somewhat unstable June with several rainfalls.
A year with a very good balance. This vintage was characterised by the absence of water stress for the plants. Winter and spring were favourable in terms of rainfall and temperatures were slightly higher than usual. At the time of budding, there was no rain, so the vines developed in a suitable manner. The flowering took place in a clean way and the Grenache vines settled in an excellent way. Summer was characterised by cool and dry days, but also humid, which led to good photosynthesis and growth of the plants. During the end of the summer, before the harvest, there was still some humidity, which preserved the freshness of the soil and, consequently, achieving a gradual ripening of the grapes, perfect to retain the aromas and the good acidity. The negative factor was the rain during the harvest days. In short, the vintage has been somewhat atypical for Priorat, with wines that are less voluminous than in a normal year in the area, but with a good acidity that is reflected in the wines and that will keep them optimal for many years.
A year that started with some problems with the flowering but ended up being very good. Winter was colder and rainier than usual. Spring continued with days of low temperatures and a lot of water that delayed flowering and the consequent setting problems until the end of March, affected production. After a complicated year, when the summer began, the rains stopped and the temperatures rose, providing excellent ripening due to optimal rainfall during the year. The year has therefore been one of the best in recent years. Fluidity, acidity and concentration augur for a long life of the wines of this vintage.
Sight Intense cherry red colour with maroon edge and violet tones. High robe, very covered. Clean and bright. It shows an abundant and dense tear. Nose It is recommended decanting this wine a long time before enjoying it in order to let it show all its aromatic nuances to the maximum. Complex and concentrated nose, aromas of red fruit that slowly becomes black, fleshy and juicy, together with floral nuances, pleasant toasted and smoked hints, aromatic herbs and mineral notes. Taste It shows a powerful attack and a large mid-palate which fills the palate with fruity and spiced sensations. Great acidity, well present tannins. Long and persistent finish. Very mineral and fruity wine at retro-olfaction.
Sight The tasting repport of this wine is being translated. Meanwhile, you can check the Spanish version. Taste

Sight Intense cherry colour with garnet trims. Bright wine. Nose Powerful, concentrated and expressive aromas. Many notes of red fruits with lots of balsamic nuances. Typical Priorat notes such as mineral and wood notes. It needs to open up before it shows the aromatic complexity of this wine from the winery Vall Llach. Taste Wide attack, with a velvety mid palate full of ripe fruit and spices. Balsamic finishing touches. Fleshy, powerful and fresh wine. Ripe tannins. Long finish.
Sight Dull cherry color. Nose Aroma of character, complex, ripe fruit, candied fruit, spirits, chocolate, sweet spices. Taste Tasty, powerful, fleshy, ripe fruit.

Designation of Origin D.O.Q. Priorat

Winery Vall-Llach

Priorat is craftsmanship and tradition, old and robust vines that are grown and born deep inside the province of Tarragona. They are grown on slopes that are sleety with low fertility and difficult to grow in. In Priorat they produce great red wines of an excellent quality, a maroon colour, robust, dense and rich flavour, intense aromas and sometimes there are reflections present of minerals from the soils.

Imágenes y situación D.O.Q. Priorat

Celler Vall Llach was created at the beginning of the 90s by the singer Lluís Llach and the notary public Enric Costa in Porrera, one of the nine villages that comprise D.O.Q. Priorat. It is a very small winery that chooses to carry out the controlled microproduction of its farms or “trossos” with the aim of always putting quality before quantity. For this reason, at Celler Vall Llach have established a limit to the extension of their production and growth. Their aim is to keep the personalised and exhaustive control of each one of their wines, which are considered to be fascinating and unique. This is why at Celler Vall Llach they turn the relationship between human beings and the land into a delicate balance between the effort of a hard cultivation and the enjoyment of unique results.
