Characteristics of Guitian Sobre Lías
Guitian Sobre Lías is a white wine from D.O Valdeorras produced by the A Tapada winery. This is a single variety wine made with the Godello grape variety.
The region is home to a Mediterranean and oceanic climate, with strong Atlantic influences, characterised by a strong contrast between summer and winter, yet milder temperatures in spring and autumn. The climate is ideal for the cultivation of grapes, and especially the production of high quality dry wines.
Guitian Sobre Lías is produced using traditional methods. During the production process, the must undergoes fermentation at controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks. The wine is then aged on its fine lees for six months in the same stainless steel tanks.
The A Tapada winery, more commonly known as Guitian, was one of the main culprits behind the Godello grape’s rise to prominence in the region. The winery has without a doubt helped set the benchmark in the D.O. Valdeorras.
This Denomination of Origin occupies part of the beautiful valleys of the rivers Sil and Jares in the Northeast of the province of Orense. Vineyards line the slopes of the mountains that frame the river valleys and at the bottom of them, occupying floors slate of very good physical condition and adequate fertility, sometimes on steep slopes. The variety of higher quality and prestige, among whites, is the Godello, white wine grape that provides very fine fruity and floral aroma and excellent structure in the mouth. Next to this is the providing variety Tinta Mencia reds, purple, intense and elegant aroma and soft fleshy fruit not without its nerve.
The winery A Tapada better known as Guitián is located in Ourense. The magic hand of two geniuses of Spanish wine, Ana Martin and Pepe Hidalgo, made possible that a variety almost unknown, the Godello, became world famous when it swamped with all gold medals in the competitions it was introduced.
